Ok here's what I wanna do. I'm gunna make a cardboard template of the floor of my trunk, and then try to make a floor using, probably MDF. I hate the stupid litte rug/mat thing that came in the car it just slides around and looks sloppy, and once I get subs I will be able to mount them to the floor easier than mounting them to the frame of the car.
Do you guys think I should use MDF? I want a wood that is cheap, somewhat strong, and as light as possible.
Any tips would be appreciated, or tips on putting the carepting on the final product without having it look sloppy.

i wouldn't build a box of anything else but mdf....but it isn't cheap (not real expensive i think like 50 a sheet) its not light. as far as carpeting use 3m spray adhesive..
I am just gonna use some crappy thin particle board, cut it to fit most of the trunk, and seperate it in 2 sections by hinges so I can get the tire out if needed. Carpet, paint, or have the whole trunk fiberglassed. I made a friend who makes custom boxes and has a pretty nice portfolio, he works at our local sub shop. I am thinking about getting a part time *2 days a week or so* job there, so hopefully i will pick up some stuff I have been missing in these past few years, lol.

I have a 95 Civ, andI put a 12 in the trunk right next to the spare tire - I had to move it back a bit, but it gave me extra room - I used particle board, not the greatest, but the thing sounds great, and it wasn't expensive! I've got pics I'll put up later. The only problem is the sub is so tall it stands about 3 inches higher than the floor I built - oh, well. At least it was fun to build! And as far as the carpet tips - I use the glue, and to get it tight I also use a staple gun to pull it tight and get rid of any wrinkles.

Okay... first of all, NEVER use particle board when building a sub box, or anything in a car. I work with particle board and MDF.Particle boardbreaks easily, and it doesn't hold very well. It's a cheap alternative to MDF, but it's crap. MDF is 100x stronger, doesn't vibrateas much,and is more durable. It's also better when it gets wet, or if somehow moisture gets in. Particle board expands and gets deformed when a little bit ofmoisture gets in. Weight shouldn't matter at all when building a sub box. It's what makes your music sound good. If you really want to save 5-10 pounds and have your music sound like crap, by all means use particle board.
In my civic, I have a sub box built into the floor with the spare tire in the box (I have to unscrew the top of the box to get at it... lol) but I didn't design it so whatever. I have a 15" in it, and it sounds amazing. It was build with MDF 10 years ago, and the MDF is still in excellent shape. Sure, there are scratches, but thats it. No water damage or cracks though. MDF is an excellent choice. I don't know how much it costs for MDF, but it's well worth it over particle board any day.
