'00 DX 4 Door exhaust question.
I have a 2000 Honda Civic DX 4 Door and am trying to find an exhaust system for it but all I find is for coupes and EX's. I know my car has the cat on the exhaust manifold...would I get any system that fits an EX or LX? I'm confused on all this. I'dlike to get the RS*R but they only make it for the 2door, and the Greddy SP2 says EX only so, What do you guys suggest? I searched and searched but couldn't find the details I need. thanks.

I just bought a complete exhaust system for my 95 4 door lx and the cat back system I got was a SRS and fits a 2 and 4 door. The Hatchback is different. But it may bee like that for only my generation (92-95) Where are you looking? I got all of my stuff off ebay.

Get one for an 200 EX 4 Door. That will bolt up right to the exhaust manifold and you will be good.
If you get a header for your car eventually, get one for a 2000 EX as well. This will fit correctly, but remove the cat. If you want to keep the cat at this point, get a universal one and have it welded into your exhaust midpipe somewhere. |

I really wanna get the RS*R...but it's supposedly only for the 2 door...How much shorter is it?... since the 2 door is a shorter car? thanks.

The main problem is the DX has the D16y7, the motor's catalitic converter is hanging directly off the exhaust manifold right infront of the engine and has a short down pipe connecting to the rest of the exhaust under the car, the EX's have the Y8 with the cat under the car....... The piping is longer for the DX's due to the location of the cat.
To use the EX units you will have to either have an extention pipe made by a muffler shop (and at that point it would be cheaper to get a nice quality muffler and get a muffler shop to just do a strait pipe to the muffler) or swap out the exhaust manifold for that of an ex style, get a new cat and an O2 wire extender and again have a muffler shop do the swap over...... EDIT: LX and DX's are the same motor wise so anything LX will fit your DX.......... |

So if i'd were to buy an exhaust for the EX, I'd have to go to a muffler shop to shorten it up a little bit?

no, you'd have to have them extend it. The EX has a cat between between the exhaust manifold and the mid-pipe, meaning however long the cat is, thats how much shorter the EX's catback is. Get the EX catback, then have a high-flow cat welded somewhere in the exhaust midpipe (if you even want to keep the cat that is)

If you want to keep the cat at this point, get a universal one and have it welded into your exhaust midpipe somewhere. a catback system for the EX will be about 16" too short to fit correctly on a DX or LX. This is due to the placement of the catalytic converter, which is after the header, but before the midpipe. the midpipe on the DX/LX models is longer, which is why the catayltic converter is mounted in the header. the result being that the DX/LX pipes are longer under the car, but the same at the header https://www.hondacivicforum.com/phot...=6&apage=2 prime example of EX exhaust, you can see the cat converter connected to the downpipe, and the catback still on the car. like blackDX said, to do it right, you need to either buy a "test pipe" for the EX models and an EX catback system, and keep the stock header, or have a muffler shop weld in an extension to make it fit the other option is replace the whole system, header, cat converter and catback, and extend your o2 sensors to make it an EX equivalent buying the catback for an EX and getting a test pipe is probably the easiest/most cost effective method also, the 6th gen coupes/sedans have the same length exhaust systems, the hatchback is different, the difference in size is mainly a difference in roofline and doors. wheelbases are the same across the board, overall lengths are the same in the coupes and sedans... hatchbaks are about a foot shorter |

So I should just get the RS*R which is "meant" for the 2 door and buy a test pipe that would bolt up to my factory piping in the midsection of the car and hook up the catback from there on? thanks.
