Planning to swap a B18C1
 

I am planning to swap a B18C1 into my 96 civic EX but I have a couple of questions first.

1. For the axles how will this work... by that I mean will I still be able to use my civic aftermarket shocks and springs or no?

2. ECU, will I have to swap that out too?

3. RPM range, will I have to get a external RPM meter to read correctly since it wont be a d series engine no more.

4. How will the OBD1 and OBD2 crap work... :\

5. And anything else that you guys recommend me doing my research before i buy the engine.

b16/b18 axles should fit.
you should get an ecu with the engine and trans when you buy it from a company unless it dosent come with one obvously
if im not mistaken your 96 is obd1. you can probably swap in the obd 1 ecu.
your also goin to need the mounts to work. im not sure which ones to use in that car seeing as my 99 si had b series mounts in it already buti had to swap out the drivers side mount that bolts to the engine to the b16 mount to work.

see if u can get milage and all that info. but me i like to look under the valve cover before i buy an engine, if theres alot of crap in there like black goo then the engine is usually highermiilage/poorly taken care of.
im putting a GSR motor in my 99 si and its been fun tryin to find things when i procrastinate.

My 96 civic is OBD2.

I am getting the engine from a friend he crashed his GSR I forgot the year (whice year GSR started with the OBD2?). I'll ask him but the engine is clean and was very well taken care of, only thing that he didnt get back from the junk was the suspensions and axles and the mounts since he said they were damaged.

Good thing is he'll help me swap it in, but I feel better if I get info from two sources :)

All cars (GSR included) 96 and up = OBD2.

you can get away with an obd2 dist and obd computer but if you plan on doin the computerswap your goin to need the obvious

OBD2B to OBD1

there is difference between obd2a and obd2b.. but im not sure of the difference.

jus get a set of mounts and the shift linkage and have at it.. it dosent take really long but it does in my case b/c i procrastinate

what does your tach rev to. as long as it reads 8 grand your fine. altho id swap an si just cuz it looks alot better

I thought you could'nt use your EX cluster.... or did I hear wrong? Cause I know a EX cluster revs up to 8 (although the EX redlines at 6800)

then it'll be fine. a stock b16 ecu lets the engine rev to 8250 RPM then hits a fuel cut. which basically cuts fuel to the engine by shutting the injectors off. but for the most part its an easy swap and not that difficult

guess I need to do more research lol, so basically if I swap out the ECU with the GSR ECU that I am getting also, the RPM range on my EX cluster should read correctly? Or am I totally wrong and just stop this and stick with a SOHC lol.

youre on the right track, but before we can really answer your questions, you really need to find out what year the gsr is. that makes a huge difference in what you need to do.
