Need Solution For Sqweaky Brakes
My 94' Honda Civic EX has sqweaky brakes since I replaced them. I've tried that orange gel crap but it didn't do a thing. I was told to take a hacksaw and cut grooves in the pad itself. Not to sure what thats supposed to do but I'm willing to try anything. Any comments on my pad manipulation/mudulation idea?

there my be dirt or sand in the pads?

RE: Need Solution For Sqweaky Brakes
Do you mean that there is dirt or sand in the pads from the manufactor or something I picked up from driving?

RE: Need Solution For Sqweaky Brakes
did you use the gel correctly? a lot of people mess that stuff up. you gotta let it dry a little first. and also, what kind of pads did you get? some are louder than others.

Did you forget to transfer the anti-squeal plates to the new pads? A lot of people seem to make that mistake...

RE: Need Solution For Sqweaky Brakes
Yeah, I used the gel on the pad and then put the anti-squeal plates on and then put more gel on top of that and let it dry for about 15 minutes. I also put gel on every little piece of metal that looked shiney from rubbing. The pads I bought were from Autozone so I'm sure their not the best. I was told that brake dust is the problem, thats where cutting slots into the pad comes in play. It's a pain in the ass to work on the car at my place so I go to the local car wash, it can be very interesting sometimes. I'll let ya'll know what happens!

RE: Need Solution For Sqweaky Brakes
use a brake lube that is silcone base one the back of the pads and all of the brake caliper bolts a sqeak is cause by vibration between pads an rotors

RE: Need Solution For Sqweaky Brakes
if the sqweaking has just started recently then your pads could have picked up something when ur driving..also how new are the pads.. if they are starting to lose it all together..it might make that kinda noise

and for what its worth, i cant see cutting slots in them doing much. maybe just pull them out and clean everything really well with a can of Brakleen.
