Is the "buffer spinner thingy" a rotary or an orbital polisher? If it's a rotary, I would practice on an old panel from the salvage yard first because you can screw up your paint real bad with rotary. If it's an orbital you're safe, just have a go at it. Rotary spins off a stationary spindle; one direction and builds up a lot of heat and friction quickly... Orbital spins off an eccentric offset; back and forth, up down etc creating less heat... (not enough to burn paint)

The best stuff I've ever used is called ReJex. It lasts for months and NOTHING sticks to it. If your car is left out in the rain, it stops raining and you drive home, your car will be spotless. It is amazing - much better than a wax. here's the link: http://www.corrosionx.com/rejex.html
