Wow Chimera your car is very nicly done. In the long run do you think it is worth hooking up the D17, since you have done so much to it? I just order some headers an exhaust and a 170amp alternator. I still need to buy a Vtec head and a vafc2 controller (APEXI VAFC2 II thats that one i was looking at) Could you give me a price range that a shop would give to install these parts? BTW how much HP you pushing now?

The a2 head would be installed by a shop for about 300-350, You can look on the forums, people sell their vtec heads for less than 200. VAFCII will run you less than 170 and I bet the shop would include that in the 350 for the install. I've been quoted and almost purchased the a2 head... but something tells me to wait for the bigger picture!

I might sound stupid for saying this, but im puting on my flame suit..

to "change" your lx to a ex you need to change the head of the engine which is currently an "a1" for the lx to a "a2" for the ex?

Edited:

I can't seem to find a header for my lx sedan 2003 civic... is my only option(totally a noob when it comes to cars) to convert my "head of engine" to an EX type?

You havent said anything flame worthy, unless you plan on sticking a hood scoop on your car...  there are 2 things going on in my post... I did a "header" swap to EX.... there is also a "head" swap, which is COMPLETELY different, requiring the top of the engine being removed and replaced with the a2 vtec head and a vafc2 controller which goes in your car... but is it really worth all that trouble for an extra 10hp? I'd rather save to get my k24 frankenstein or k20

More like a D17---->k20 swap! If I can find an a2 I might do it just to say "I got V-tak, yo!" but once I do that I know I'll wind up building the D and I'd rather get power out of the box than figure out how to get a dezod kit on my civ.
