Well, I've slowly but surely been sanding down all the blue paint I had in the interior. When it finally gets warmer, I'm going to basically paint everything below the headliner satin black. Well, I figured that some people might be interested in how far I've come so far. (by the way, this time I'm going to paint everything correctly--the first time I painted the pieces, I was in a hurry resulting in a sloppy paint job. This time, it's going to be primered, painted, clearcoated, etc.)

Anyway, here's what I was dealing with before I started:

yeah, I definitely plan on taking my time... obviously, I actually sanded this time, I'm going to be primering everything, sanding more, paintingmultiple layers, then clearcoating it... I think it'll turn out pretty good. As soon as it gets warmer, I'm going to take the pillar trim off to sand off the texture (I like the interior smooth, not that grain stuff) and sand down the remaining painted pieces. I'll get more pics up in the next couple days.

There's nothing quite like spending an hour or two alone in your basement sanding paint off plastic... At any rate, I have the passenger door done... all that remains is the door trim (the things at the bottom of the door jamb), the cup holder, and the rear speaker grilles... then I can primer everything and paint it all satin black!

=O Danomatic drives an automatic? For shame...

So do I. Heheh.

Are you actually going to paint the whole dash and doors black too? Lookin' good so far, keep it up.

Yeah, sometimes when I get bored, I pretend it's a five speed, and I'm all up in that mofo shiftin' gears lol... I'm swapping to a 5-speed this summer...

anway, I'm painting the plastic trim black and replacing the carpet on the doors (I found a great write-up on Honda-Tech) with black carpet... the dash itself is already dark enough for me.. it's either a really, really dark gray or black, and that's good enough for me lol

if u sand off the grains on the plastic more then likely u will end up with deep sand scratchs. i would recommend just scrubbing them with a scotch brite pad and scuff stuff (found at any auto paint store) . if u want to get rid of the grains the right way to do it is to fiberglass it but that will take forever..

Actually, I don't have any deep scratches... that's one of the reasons it took so long to sand everything for... I took it down to about 400 grit, and the scratches that are still left (there's one or two shallow scratches that aren't very noticeable) will disappear when I primer the pieces anyway.

That blue is horrible.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I'm painting everything black... it'll look a lot better than the blue

It was finally nice enough outside to paint. I didn't have any primer or kyrlon fusion, but I did have a can of gloss black engine enamel sitting around, and I figured, "why not?" (I have painted plastic with enamel before, and I've got to say, it stays on the plastic pretty well). Anyway, I managed to get the driver's door pieces painted, as well as the defroster vents on the dash. Originally, I wasn't sure about it because it's gloss black, but I think it looks pretty good (and there's no glare from it either).

Well, right now my interior is in pieces... the center console and dash trim are drying in the garage awaiting a few more coats. I basically ran out of paint, but luckily I'm not planning on going anywhere until monday, so I have plenty of time to pick up more paint and everything. If all goes according to plan, I could very well be done by monday.

^ Now that's glossy ;)

These pieces need a few more coats of paint before I'm going to call them done, though...

The schedule:
Today-Center console/dash trim - ran out of paint
Tomorrow-Get more paint / finish console & dash, rear speaker grilles
Saturday-Passenger door, passenger heater vent, replace door fabric with black fabric
Sunday-finish up, put car back together, maybe clean up a few wires or something.

i would have tried the vinyl die or something, but that looks good as well, i'm just not a fan of glossy painted interior, but definitely a huge step up from the blue

A few pics of what the stuff looks like in the car:

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/rakusi/f.jpg
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/rakusi/e.jpg

It still needs to come back out for another coat or two, but I think it looks pretty good... I'm not sure if I should take the radio trim out and paint that black, too... it's really unnoticeable unless you know it's painted. Anyway, I didn't get more paint today... I'm going shopping tomorrow, so I'm just going to get everything then.

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s258/rakusi/k.jpg

Personally, I think it looks much better. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to get more paint or the fabric for the doors, so that'll have to wait a week or two.

Nice, I like it. I like the silver around the climate control and stuff too. Pretty sweet. Still don't know what's goin' on with your gauges though lol.

reaper2022
05-06-2007, 09:07 PM
lol I'm still not sure if I like the guage bezel or not (2 years after I bought it)... oh well... I'm hopefully getting a B16A2 swap this summer, and if I do, I'm getting an Si-rII guage cluster (as well as an Si-rII climate control), so I won't have the bezel there anyway. I really can't wait to get the interior done; I'm getting kinda tired of working on it :D

Edit: Oh, by the way... anybody interested in my guage cluster/bezel if I do replace it with a jdm one? PM me if you are.

kokasian
05-06-2007, 11:26 PM
i'll take the cluster off your hands ..

Love the shift knob. :D

reaper2022
05-07-2007, 09:34 AM
Yeah, I can explain about the shift knob... I learned why a stock rubber auto shift knob and krylon fusion for plasticdon't mix. Lesson learned: don't even try it... that was the cheapest shift knob I could find. I plan on swapping to a 5-speed, so the shifter will be out of there anyway ;)

and เซ็กซี๼/a> (http://www.hondacivicforum.com/showProfile.asp?memid=20406), I'll let you know when I take the guage cluster out. Just a warning: it'll have some small holes where the screws for thebezel were.

kokasian
05-07-2007, 01:04 PM
its funny that people have to copy and paste my name...but yea, I actually plan on mounting a shift light in the cluster..so a few holes are fine
