Default 61.5 MPG?

ok.. im sure many wont even believe this, because i wouldn't either... so i was driving home from my sisters house, approx. 155 miles away, a3 hr trip.. i get back home and i noticed my fuel gauge didn't hardly move so i stopped at a gas station to top the tank off.. it stopped at around 2.5 gallons, and i was like... wtf?! haha, it came out to about 61.5 miles to the freakin gallon, ihave NO clue how this happened, or why.. but i was happy, haha.. by the way, my average is probably around 35-38ish for normal driving.. so yeah, big difference.... but, a 100% true story. it happened like 2 years ago and im still baffled...
oh by the way, its a 1994 honda civic EX coupe with manual tranny.

The only other thing I can think of is that possibly the cut off on the gas pump cut you short of a full tank and you had say 10 gallons drove 155 miles and when you filled back up the pump cut you off at say 9 gallons. So you only added 2.5 gallons but reallyburnt 3.5 gallons.

One-way trips often get skewed. Tail winds, stuck in traffic behind semi (drafting), coming down from mountains to sea level, gas tank fill errors. I have even seen pumps with bad readouts. Keep a logbook of every tank and see how you do. I have kept a log since 1973 and the results that varied the most (high and low) were one-way trips and partial tank fills like yours. Congratulations on your good fortune.

Well i was nowhere near mountains, it was a flat drive in the midwest so hardly any hills even..i never followed any semis cause i cant STAND gettin rocks kicked up at me, i hit the gas how i normally do, not like a grandma, yet not too hard. i dont remember much for tailwinds and even if there was it wouldn't have effected it that much.. and it wasn't a bad gas pump readout, cuz my fuel gauge barely even moved and it works perfectly.. i think it was just a freak thing.. coulda been somethin in the gas... whatever the heck it was i want that again! haha.
