Default Painting bumpers

I have had my civic for a few years now and over that time i have had it repainted once. From that retarded seafoam green to a nice silver metallic. Looks good with the gunmetal rims.... But i have been rearended, and my front bumper got hit in a parking lot... sad story. So im working on buying replacement bumpers but dont have the $ to get the whole car repainted. So i was thinking it would be possible for me myself to repaint the bumpers. I have been looking around for a good DIY on painting stuff but havent found one too indepth. I understand that you have to get a gun, and I'm going to work on getting the paint matched at a local body shop and I'll also pick up some clear coat for it. But what technique, process should i go through to make sure it comes out right? Im no pro so any help from you guys that have painted your cars before would be sweeeeeet
