So I picked some rims on Sunday from an 87 CRX si. They have seen better days but they would look a HELL of a lot better than my stock ones if I painted them. I imagine someone here has painted rims so I'm asking for some pointers, or even better, if someone laid down the whole procedure that would be awesome. Thanks guys.

allright. i just finished painting the rims on my wifes car. and ill post pics later. but damn, they look awesome! they were some old ass American Racing rims i had, and they were a little beat up, so she wanted to paint them dark gunmetal. we cleaned them really well with simple green (which is great cause its non-toxic and biodegradeable, so it doesnt matter that it washes down the driveway into the storm drain. and it works AWESOME.) then sanded them with 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper. then we masked them off by putting tape all the way around the tire, then taping newspaper to that. it worked great. we even removed the paper carefully from the first 2 wheels and reused it on the second two. then just did three coats each, very light coats. i even painted the wheel locks so the chrome wouldnt stand out as much. i know theyll scratch up, but they still look better than they would have chrome. oh, and i just dusted the insides, to save paint. it just needs to be close to the clor of the outside on a more closed spoke design. hope this helps. oh yeah, we used the color-match wheel paint. its hella metallic, and goes on nicely.

You know several people have asked for them...Why? I do not know. Yeah I saw this post and I had to read as the shoes need new laces. I was considering black as it would truelly cover any evidence of the original color. However everyone knows who is in it. I do stick out. And I have seen worse.
