Clear coat/paint....polish/wax question...

Just curious, can someone either chime in here or direct me to a thread that discusses this:
Recently got an '02 Civic Sedan LX and have been bitten by the detailing bug....enjoying trying different products and spendingME time w/ the car....theraputic and obssesive all at once...lol...
Anyway, wondering when Im shampooing, cleaning, polishing and then waxing...I guess Im only doing this to the clear coat.....So, what gives w/ the paint rejuvination products out there?? Do they do what they say? If so, how?
Also, I guess Im just treating the clearcoat regardless of what I put on the exterior of the car...have a darker colored car, person who owned it previously wasnt too concerned w/ exterior maintance...so, have had to put in a decent amount of time to get it looking sharp....what am I doing to the clearcoat that is causing the paint to seem darker, richer, shinnier etc....?? How does that work??
Anyway, not sure it this makes a lick of sense, but any help or direction to a previous thread would be greatly appreciated.......thanks in advance................

check out the meguiars 3 step thing. thats supposed to be really good for 'rejuvinating' as you put it.

It's what I've been using....1) Clean 2) Polish and 3) Wax...used the Meguires wax, Zymol and just tried the Royale Blue.

what i do is
1. clay bar (gets dirt out of clear coat)
2. swirel remover (removes swirels)
3. wax

the only products i use is meguiars not the commerical stuff but it comes in a manilla color bottle and is more expensive then most commercial products.
