?questions? prepping for turbo
Hey everybody, I justbought a D15B7 block and a D16y7 head for 50 bucks from a guy I know = ) . The plan is to build and boost that little puppy. Can anyone tell me what companies make forged rods and pistons for the D15B7? Also does anyone have any suggestions on what else to do to prep this engine for boost? General tips and guidence would be greatly appriciated too. I know I'm looking at some cash to build this motor, but I want to take my time and do it right; Plus the money I saved on the engine makes it worth it I think. Thanks, jake |
RE: ?questions? prepping for turbo
what are your power goals? if your goin for a 400whp car then you'll need to do internals
if you arent i would suggest doing a mild turbo kit at 7-9 psi on a engine management sys and have fun with it |
RE: ?questions? prepping for turbo
My goal is actually only around 200-250. I just want a sweet daily driver. but I want to go ahead and do everything right the first time, that way I have more options down the road. My plan so far is to do cometic gaskets, srp pistons, and crower rods. I think that combo should be plenty strong for my goal,.. I think. What I've seen from looking at the forums is that the only really critical thing is the rods. supposedly that is the weak point of the D series. Am I right on this?

RE: ?questions? prepping for turbo
Correct, Dseries rods are thin as ****... lemme see if I can find that picture...
http://users.rcn.com/dwilz/vsrod.jpg Dseries left, Eagle right. Dunno what rods you can go with in the D15s... I know the eagles will push the piston too high and whack the cylinder head. FYI, I pushed 217whp on a stock D16Y8, you really don't need to do much engine work to push that much power out of these engines. |

Wow, those rods really are puny. Eagleonly makes rods for the D16,not the D15. Maybe thats where the problem is. So far It looks likeCrower is the only company that makes rods for the D15B7 block. They are expensive ascrap, but I have a hookup and hopefully I can get them at wholesale price.
