I believe you, remember I did own the iroc, there was a reason I bought it, it was a good platform to start from. But I got an offer on a 96 cobra with 32,347 original miles and the paint looked brand new. I gave the guy 5 grand and the old beat up iroc and a few engine parts I picked up at the swap meet. There is nothing wrong with Chevy's, and the new Z06 is in my opinion the second baddest car to roll out of Detroit only second to the 1970 LS6 Chevelle SS. But for right now I'll stick with my cobra.

IMO z06 is too expensive. i would rather take a new sti for 40,000 and use the other 30,000 and dominate the z06 for the same amt of money. but it is very impressive that chevy has a stock n/a car running that quick

To my cobra? I did the whole bottom end with forged components, had that part sent out. Did the usual head, cam, and intake swaps, all in my drive way. Upgraded ignition, full MSD, all new fuel system components, BBK race fuel pump, bigger injectors, and fuel cell with all the lines to go with it.. I ditched the 8.8 rear, and went with a ford 9" with 3.55 gears in the rear and a detroit locker. Then went with the usual power adders, full exhaust, cold air intake, a set of under drive pulleys, then ditched the smog equipment. There is other stuff done but I can't really remember, I have all the receipts in a folder I keep for each of my vehicles. There is other things that don't really make it go faster, like racing seats and a good set of harnesses, a roll cage is coming as soon as I get the cash for it. And a major part of making it go fast was weight reduction.  The spare, the jack, the smog equipment, plus the cylinder heads are aluminum so they dropped a total of like 50 pounds off the engine. I know it seams like a lot of work for only 11.99, but older more experianced people say that with a better driver and a good set of slicks could drop the time down to as much as 11.5 maybe, but where is the fun in letting someone else race your car? The best part is, it gets driven back and forth to the track.

so youre running 11.90s, NA? if so, thats pretty good for an SN95 cobra.  did you keep the original stroke and bore?

i have to ask, running 11.90s, why the cage? most tracks dont require one now until 11.49, and they are heavy...

See with all due respect that much time and work into the GM alternative would kill 11.99's and what is your trap speeds? And anyone that says the Z06 is overpriced, go ride in one, go drive one, go try to make a car domintae it top speed, in the 1/4 mile, and on a road course. The car beats Ferrari's and 911 GT3's on the ring. So yea right overpriced? ha more like over built.

The cage is to come, Right now there is stock bore, but before I go forced induction I might try a stroker kit with the same bore. Like I said before, a lot of weight reduction helps with lowering the time. Marty, it was in the begining of the summer and the slips in the car in my grandmothers garage on the other side of town so I am not sure of the trap speed, something like 110-115. I agree with you on the fact that all that work could have been done to a chevy and been way past 11.99 but I have seen in person only 2 late model ss camaros in new jersey. Marty isn't it enough that I am 19, and built a car on my own time and money that can go to the track and peel off an 11.99 with me behind the wheel. I have been practicing my launches and next time I run the car there will be slicks so we'll see. Sorry to get off track but I have a little story, last time I wen't to the track some kid in a new M3 that mommy and daddy bought lined up against me and laughed at my car, he laughed because he told everybody that dad just bought him all this crap that is going to make him kill my piece of **** cobra. Those were his exact words, could you imagine the look on his face when my 13,000 dollar cobra ran a 12.1 and his over 60,000 dollar M3 didn't break 13.00. Isn't thats what its all about?
(And just so you know a Z06 for 70,000 dollars is a bargin and a half because its fractions of lambos, and ferraris, and the look on their faces are priceless when they see a vette flying past.)
