Default Transmission Flush and total amount of ATF fluid.

So I have a 99 sedan w/ a d16y7 engine. Looked in the manual and it said that the transmission holds 6.2 quarts total. That sound about right ? So if I get a whole flush I should buy around 7 quarts of Honda ATF ?

I looked at a PDF of the civic manual and it says that you need 2.9 quarts for changing and 6.2 quarts for an overhaul. If I want the entire transmission flushed, would I use the overhaul amount ?

DONT DO IT, you will just have problems. your trans (seals mostly)are used to pumping thick dirty fluid through the chambers and when you flush or even change your fluid it just causes problems. ive heard that if a car gets a full flush every 20k its good but if it goes even 50k your better off just fillin it when its low and dont touch it otherwise.

I feel I have to. The transmission is full of Dexcron III. This isn't good for Honda transmissions from what I've heard. I'm willing to risk it, if there really is a risk. Can anyone else confirm w/ Jeff said above ?

Just did it today ;D Replaced it w/ all Honda ATF. Took it for a test drive. No leaks or transmission shudders. Very smooth shifts from 1st to2nd to 3rd to 4th.

one thing ive ALWAYS HEARD IS DONT FLUSH THE SYSTEM.... just drain it and refil it...
cause i hear that when shops PRESURE FLUSH the tranny it breaks loose other debri inside the tranny which then clogs up TONS of the inline screens which is the main reason for transmision failures after changing fluid...
