View Full Version : KA20 cam swap?
blackpearl169 04-28-2004, 12:13 AM I'm not sure if it's the only difference, but would it be worth it to swap in more aggressive cams in my 04 SI, or would the $$$ be better spent just swapping in the whole RSX-S engine? It bolts right in, plus 6-speed!!!

lilol89crx 04-28-2004, 02:58 PM in the long run i would think the k20 from the rsx would be a better choice. but if hp-$ is main concern then there are other options such as turbos.
blackpearl169 04-29-2004, 11:29 PM True, but drivability would be the main issue with that. Being it's my commuter car, too, a turbo would be a bitch in traffic...
Importman04 05-02-2004, 12:24 PM if you ptu a turn\bo on it get a turbo timer or whatevr they are called then you could turn your boost down and then it wouldn't be so bad in traffic
lilol89crx 05-02-2004, 12:32 PM electronic boost controler, you can adjust boost from the wastegate pre-set and up. but actually a turbo isnt bad in traffic. it wont really boost untill you get on it, also it doesnt boost low enough to act like a supercharger. you could always go with nitrous
Importman04 05-02-2004, 12:35 PM what is it with you guts and nitrous. not being mean just wondering. i mean i know its a cheap way to go but if you mess up there goes your motor
lilol89crx 05-02-2004, 12:42 PM yeah nitrous is by far the worst to tune and use if you dont understand it. but its by far the most powerfull as far as money-hp/tq. but then again nitrous is only used on the track so as compared to a turbo or s/c that is used everyday it wears about the same in a set period of time.
6thgencupe 05-06-2004, 02:11 PM Ahh I hate nitrous ... I think its the easy way out, but that's just my opinion. Anyone can slap a bottle in their car and call it a day.I think you shoudl definitly go with the KA motor. The RSX is 6 speed besides its one of the hottest swaps out there now. Also Theyre rare as hell now. I think its WELL worth ur money .. and later u can make it turbo
ZzZzz EH2 05-06-2004, 02:43 PM Dont try to build the stock motor, you will never be happy with the end result. Get the RSX-S because you will have a better base to start with, well worth the cash.
polo708 05-07-2004, 10:13 AM yeah, nitrous is the cheapest bang for buck, but it will kill your motor.
lilol89crx 05-09-2004, 12:56 AM i was reading about the k series engines. it stated that the rsx and the civic engine were totally different as far as vtec engagement. they also stated that the rsx head could be used in the k24 found in the pilot. this combination put down 18x whp and 15xtq. this was a 20hp gain and 30tq gain over the stock rsx.
hoody1982 05-22-2004, 12:49 AM Nitrous is not near as bad for your motor if you know how to use it, as long as you don't run lean and don't use it all the time everywhere you go you will be fine. Definately swap with the rsx motor, then you can give me your engine that you don't need right? lol it was worth a try.

Of course it wont be as bad if its done right, but its still bad. I think it works better on V8 and cars like that, but its awesome if u dont plan on having your car a long time.

if you think about it.....just driving your car normally stock is bad for it..... as far as comparing 4cyl to v8, either way you look at it nitrous damages the engine the exact same way regardless of how many more pistons the v8 has. tune it, use it right and youll be fine. its like a turbo. bad ass intercooler and ****ty fuel managment and ur askin to buy a new motor. its all about tuning. everything has its cons.

Exactly, like I said, if it's done right and used right, no problems. You can make an engine last years running on nitrous, just don't run too big of a shot and don't use it all the time as well as keeping it tuned right.
