View Full Version : My 1st gear go up to (55 mph), why so long?
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 05:03 PM I have an auto jdm b16 but i dont think it has a b16 tranny because when i tested out the gearing in 1st gear it went to 45mph @7k rpms and at 8200 rpms it went up to 55mph.
Why does it have such a long 1st gear?
how many mph does your 1st gear go up to?
s2000gtx 08-04-2007, 05:58 PM ^ it none f my buisness but why are u driving in D1 AND D2 for shouldnt u be in D4
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 06:06 PM why would you think that i'm driving it in those gears??
I never said i was driving it in those gears. I use the regular drive which is D4. ex. P R N (D) 3 2 1
addiction2bass 08-04-2007, 06:36 PM well i wouldnt try that........ cause your trannys not built for that and a automatic IF ONE GEAR GOES OUT... your screwed.... its not like a manual when you can just skip a gear!
plus not to mention the hard wear on the motor being reved that high for so long!!!!
i would NEVER TRY THAT!!!!!!
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 06:45 PM you wouldnt try what?? CAN YOU PLEASE READ MY FIRST POST!!! What are you talking about, i put it in the regular gear and thats how high my engine revs i'm not forcing anything on my engine. I drive it regular but when i go WOT thats what it does and it goes to 2nd gear and 3rd and so on. I guess you dont get what i'm tring to say.
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 06:48 PM all i need to know ishow many mph does your 1st gear go up to with a b16 or a b18 swap because my swap goes up to 55mph in 1st gear @ 8200rpms, is that normal for a b16 or a b18 swap?
addiction2bass 08-04-2007, 06:57 PM well how much pedal you giving it........... i see what ya mean now....
but if your stomping the pedal i can see how it would go that high BUT for normal driving it shouldnt go that high at all!
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 06:59 PM nah i mean when i'm racing and i have the pedal all the way down, thats when it goes that high, thats y i said at WOT. wide open Throttle, just in case you didnt know what that ment
addiction2bass 08-04-2007, 07:03 PM well if your stomping the gas and it does that.... ya i dont see a problem with it....... my stock motor goes preaty high before shifting when i have it floorboarded.......
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 07:12 PM yea but for a b16 isnt 55mph in 1st gear kind high since people say it's a close ratio tranny compared to the other b-series
4doorcivic9 08-04-2007, 07:16 PM yeah idk what the deal is. I don't think it should be running that high at all 55mph in 1st gear that is. Then again its a automatic..probably a little bit diff. so im not sure. Could possibly be an LS tranny on it. That would suck if it was. Check the tranny code on it.
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 07:18 PM where would the code be on a Auto tranny?
ef4life 08-04-2007, 07:18 PM if its an auto it isn't closely geared. it will be more spaced out do to the fact it has one less gear.
and auto generally have longer gears also.
a b16 auto is quite rare and not available in the US, not many were made, it could be a b18 auto trans for a teg or something
nightrider46 08-04-2007, 07:23 PM yea i heard it was rare that i have a b16 auto tranny but it's not a regular US b16, it's a JDM b16 sirII, i heard that it alil more aggresive then the regular US b16
s2000gtx 08-04-2007, 07:52 PM lucky u
johnb 08-06-2007, 01:55 PM dude that's bad ass. i wish i could go that fast in first gear lol.
point break 92 08-06-2007, 03:58 PM cool
nightrider46 08-06-2007, 04:41 PM it's really not that great because the acceleration is slow as ****, a LS is able to beat me from a dig like 3-4 cars but on a 30roll or higher, i own most cars. It' very strong on top end, by the top of 3rd gear i'm already past 100mph
Fiirkan 08-06-2007, 05:12 PM *sigh*.... with an Auto tranny, the 1st gear is only used till like 10mph then it goes into second, so you have a very good chance that you are actually in second gear...
addiction2bass 08-06-2007, 05:54 PM hum..... well from the looks of my RPMS i get up to ruffly 30-40mph before i see the tach die down and feel it shift.....

s2000gtx 08-06-2007, 06:08 PM ^ IS THT a full tank of gas i see [8D][8D]and it look like u got up to 40 in 1st gear at 6500rpm and about 65 in second at 6500rpm
addiction2bass 08-06-2007, 06:21 PM ya i always fill up the tank;)
when coming from a fullsize truck with 16mpg and about 65bucks to fill up a tank.... 20-30bucks to fill up this little car RULES!!!!!
and i just got shifted in 4th gear at like 85 or 95 not sure...LOL i just didnt want to go any faster... PLUS it woulda took me alot longer to try and top out the speed...... talk about a SLOW acceleration. LMFAO
makes me wanna CHEAT and find a large hill and make a video going downhill. LMFAO
nightrider46 08-06-2007, 07:09 PM I'll try to make a video and show you guys what i mean, It's deff 1st gear. I'll make a video of 1st 2nd and 3rd.
Marty 08-06-2007, 09:59 PM It is normal and your getting beat because you have around a 30% drive terrain loss on a llready tq'less B16. You have about 110 to 115whp and about 80 ft lbs of tq to the wheels. vs a B18B manual Integra which has around 120ish whp and 105 to 110wtq. Couple that with better gearing of a manual and you are going to get beat. Sad truth is with your setup I dont see why SOHC Z6 and Y8 manuals are not walking you.
nightrider46 08-06-2007, 10:15 PM I dont think i lost that much HP to the wheels, its the 170hp JDM b16 which i believe it has 150hp to the wheels with a Manual and 135hp for a Auto. actually the friend is an Auto LS. He still gets me by 3-4 cars from a dig and the othere way around when it's from a roll. Win for me on a roll, win for him from a dig. It has to be the tranny thats slowing me down alot in the begining but i woop some ass at top end. I raced my friends Rsx type S from a roll and he beat me by 1 car. I just need to get rid of this tranny and do a auto to manual swap. But i dont want to waste more money so i'm selling it pretty soon.
Marty 08-06-2007, 10:21 PM All B16's in stock form with a manual dyno 135 to 140whp, the autos are a bit behind that. The B18B has more tq everywhere in the rpm range that is why he is getting you with the automatic.
nightrider46 08-06-2007, 10:30 PM so your saying that the 160hp US b16 will dyno the same as the 170hp JDM b16 sirII ? in theary wouldnt it dyno 10hp more?
Marty 08-06-2007, 10:58 PM You would think it would but from what I have seen they all dyno with in 2 to 5hp of eachother.
nightrider46 08-06-2007, 11:06 PM I'm guessing if modified it would yeild totally diferent results since everyone wants to take the p30 pistons out of the JDM (more aggressive) and put them in another USb16.

yea i heard it was rare that i have a b16 auto tranny but it's not a regular US b16, it's a JDM b16 sirII, i heard that it alil more aggresive then the regular US b16
Lol.
The auto trans has 4 gears, so it needs longer geared ratios in order to work correctly. If you want that tranny to last I'd stop racing it, Honda auto trans' don't like to be beat on. I believe all of the Honda auto trannies are geared similarly, you got bull****ted when you bought the car for sure though.
nightrider46 08-06-2007, 11:38 PM i bought the car stock. it had the SOHC. I did the swap myself so i dont see how i got bull****ed on? The reason y i got the auto b16 is because it was cheaper for me at the time and i didnt have enough money to do a auto to manual swap. so yea, i know my car in and out, it just has one more code for me to fix and it's good as new, but yea a manual would be nice.
SOHCcivic97 10-24-2007, 09:33 PM did you have a problem with the tranny/tranny mount fitment? cuz im doing a j-sprc auto b16a2 swap also in my 97'civic. but im using the y8 harness. and the swap (complete changeover) is comming from Hmotorsonline.com
nightrider46 10-24-2007, 09:58 PM i got your email. if you have aim let me know, we can talk instead of pming or posting
88civ 10-25-2007, 07:45 AM I dont know if it helps but with my factory tranny in my dx i go 45 or so at 7000 in first.
nightrider46 10-25-2007, 08:24 AM i found out that it's normal. the reason for that is, because auto hondas have 4speeds and thats y every gear seems long. If it was a 5speed manual it would be a different story.
Cyphen 10-26-2007, 12:57 AM LOL, i dont know about you guys but i dont go no where that near high in first gear i take mine to about 35 in first gear then 2nd gear i can do about 70 but as far as normal driving i go from first to 4th -_-
kamalu22 11-09-2007, 06:20 AM holy smokes, 55 in 1st gear. crazy!
