^^^^ like forty said, wrapped the intake, fuse box and dizzy. When I did mine, I wrapped everything with plastic bags and rubber bands..... spray it with engine degreaser and just rinse everything off with the hose. I then took some cloth rags to dry some of the water and also let the engine run for a little while to help dry any water left.
i would just take your intake off and plastic over the TB with a rubber band. And +1 what they said about your dizzy and all the elec stuff. Good luck.... and i would do it with something like a hose. so its not tooo powerful. And i would let it sit a while before driving just to make sure it gets a little dry.

I cleaned my engine today and found out that it is really handy to have an air compressor with a blower type nozzle to get any dust or debris out of the way before getting anything wet. It also does a nice job of removing excess water before starting the engine and leaving it in idle.
I'm sure those precautions the fellas above posted are great for being really, really cautious about cleaning a motor but...
Speaking as someone who has cleaned many a motor, my simple formula of a warm engine, VERY liberally coated in a quality enginecleaner / degreaser and a pressure washer with a 25 degree tip on it has been a spot-on success time after time after time. You just have to be observant and not spray the hose directly into the air box, etc. After it's washed, let it sit while you wipe the engine bay down and fire her up!
