Default which engine to go with...?

which enfgine should i go with when i get ready to do the swap? 1st gen zc motor (dohc non-vtec) or d16y8 (sohc vtec)?
oh yea the car is a 91 dx hatch

the vtec engine has a lot more aftermarket support. it will be easier to get more power out of the sohc, despite the superior dohc design. although i would recommend you try to get the 92-95 d16z6 sohc vtec. it makes a little less power, but you will have a little less trouble with the wiring and the OBD1 computer is much easier to tune with. and if you do this swap, swap the ecu also. the vtec controller or rpm switch things are not as good as real vtec run by the ecu like its supposed to. also the d16z6 will be a little cheaper. the engine out of the ex has a little longer 5th gear than the si, so you could get a little better gas mileage with it, but other than that all the d16z6s are the same.

thanks bro thats what i was lookin for ... is the d16z6 also an easy engine to find? will my local junkyard have it? thanks

okay, i think that a vtec would be cheeper, but, i heard that a d16 in a 88-91 civic will give you 130 hp ! and i have seen them on ebay for as little $800, so check out ebay, and try and go with a d16, i'm gonna put one in my 89 civic this summer ^_^

is the del sol ex motor the same? i called around and one salvage yard told me when i asked for a 92 95 civic ex motor they told me they had a del sol ex motor for 650 but he hung up before i could get mi and year.... but does it have the same hp as the d16z6? maybe its the same motor... i dont know please help also is 650 a reasonable price depending on the mi or can i get it cheaper?
