Hey,

My old one is whooped. Synchros are shot. Just got a used one today. Thinking of rebuilding it. This is not above my capability. BUT, I do not have a procedure or reference to do it. I found a place mantrans.com that has rebuild kits for $225.

Has anyone done this, and could they provide me with documentation?

Or, does anyone know where I could find a rebuild procedure???

You can buy a used low-mileage tranny for $200 or less. Don't bother with a rebuild; there's too many things you could **** up.

There's not too many parts inside these things. I have rebuilt my dirtbike tranny plenty of times before, without an issue. Granted, I understand that a car tranny is a bit more complex, I still think it is within my grasp. I am mostly curious if things need to be pressed on/off, and if there is a schematic available.

One could only really mess it up is care is not taken to document where things go, the sequence, the clocking, etc...

I'm assuming this sort of documentation is not available. Maybe someone out there has a factory manual they could scan???

yeah i agree with kappa just buy a used transmission. It ain't gonna be that pretty once you take the transmission apart unless you know what ur doing.

It's not a question of whether or not it can be done, it's a question of how many things you can **** up while doing it. I've never ****ed one up, but I don't rebuild Honda trannies anymore for precisely this reason: You're looking to spend around $250 on a rebuild kit vs. $200 on a used tranny and a whole lot less work... it just makes more sense.

like kappa stated, there are too many little things that you can do wrong to tear up that tranny. i also build and rebuild honda transmissions and there even more complicated than your basic chevy 4spd. search your local import poerformance shops. you may be able to get one cheap as they wont store these things for long.

Actually, your best bet is to check out an importer of used Japanese parts. If you look around at those, you can get the best deals, good-condition parts, and bitchin' warranties.
