Ok guys, I need help. I just ordered a carbon fibre hood. My question is, do I need hood pins? Some people are telling me yes and others are telling me no. Im stuck. Please let me know what you think. I'd really appreciate it

For safety, yes. The person that sold you the carbon fiber hood probly told you yes because they dont want to be sued for not giving you the advice. If your hood was to come off. Which isnt likely to happen unless you are going extremely fast, which I dont think you could do or would do. For a more secured hood, yes get them. If your not worried about it, it doesnt matter if you dont get them. Your hood with latch just like your stock one, its just recommended to get the pins.

It depends. Where did you order it from and what brand is it? It all comes down to not being a cheapskate and spending the extra money on a good quality hood. A lot of the cheaper models have ****ty locking mechanisms that can let go at highway speeds

It's a Seibon hood.

you should be fine without hood pins with a seibon. As long as the latch is strong it should catch if it does decide to pop open, but only an inch

yea you will be fine. just make sure to adjust your latch properly when you put the hood on.

yo i have a seibon carbon fiber hood. its the evo style one. hood pins are a pain in the ass and theres really no point unless ur gonna go insane fast. i didnt get them and i think it looks better without them. if u wanna see some pictures i can send u some or something

they're not intended for "cool looks" or convenience, and you don't have to go "insanely fast" to require them. It's all about the quality of the latch mechanism. Bum quality....get pins

I know two people who lost their hoods (one had a fiberglass one, the other carbon fiber) at highway speeds.

Sired91 had his OE hood fly loose on him and damage the hell outta his roof line on his crx...... I'd say better safe than sorry. You can get stardard units, locking units and the more flush "areocatch" (http://www.importprecision.com/aerocatch_hood_pins/index.htm) units (come in stadard or locking):

I dont know what the argument here is about. Get the damn pins whats the big deal. They look good on the aftermarket hood and its more safe, whats the problem? pay $30 for the damn pins. Dont come crying to HCF when your hood pops up and smashes your windshield and then flys over your car and hits the person behind you and ruins their car and then you wont even have a hood. So thats what...like $3000 in damage against $30? whats the problem

If your hood totally flies of yourvehicle you better have just rolled that damn car. as for the hood pins personal prefrance. As you will find out everybody has a horror story for every product ever made. personally I think hood pins look like crap on a street car.So just choose whatever is going to make you happy!

I am definitly not a fan of hood pins. But as I think someone metioned they do make a nearly flush cam lock kinda deal I that looks cool.
