What a beautiful night out. 75 degrees, the sky filled with stars, a very subtle setting. I had just gotten done washing the car again for the third time in four days. As I wiped the final drops off of the front bumper I stepped back and admired my new baby. Under the white flood light the fresh paint glistened as if asking "please Aaron, show me off."
I slid into my del sol seats and slipped the key into the ignition. I turned the key and the car responded with it's low grumble from the 3" turboback. God it's like sex I thought to myself. I flicked the headlight switch to on and watched as the 6000K HIDs came to life. I slowly pulled the car out of the driveway and coasted it down my street trying to decide where I wanted to go.
About half an hour later I found myself cruising down 422. I don't often drive this road as it leads to King of Prussia. In fact, the only reason I took this road was because I had just been on it the day before for a meet at the mall and noticed that it had been repaved. Yup, brand new blacktop with little traffic, my kind of road. The hatch rolled along at about 60mph, windows down, a little In Flames toting it's screams over the speakers. Truly this is heaven.
I started to come up on King of Prussia so I decided to turn around at the next exit, **** gets confusing once you get into the city. I rolled around the circle and hopped back onto the highway headed in the other direction. As I rolled down the on ramp I got a little heavy on the pedal in 2nd gear. The 57trim came to life with a loud whistle and the roar of the opened wastegate dumping it's waste into the beautiful night air. 7K came and I shifted, no reason to go any further right now I just wanted to merge. I pulled into the right lane and almost immediately I had another set of HIDs coming up fast on my left. Alrighty.
I look to my left as a red Evo pulls up next to me and begins to pace me. I look over at the driver and immediately recognize him. Deuchebag!
*flashback*
The night before was the KoP meet, and I was showing a friend my new setup as he'd never seen it in person before. This particular Evo owner came up to me and asked me how much power I was making, I laughed and told him I really wasn't sure. He looked at me and told me flat out "eh, probably wouldn't be fair anyway." I already know what this Evo has as I know the people who he pays to do the work on it.
Evo, stock turbo (16G), cams, 660cc injectors, tuned on an SAFC. I would say that being as what he's tuned with I don't see him making much over 300whp if that.
*back to the story*
As soon as I realize who it was I figured it would just be better to mind my own business. The car although tuned isn't "tuned" to the point that I'd like it. I also have some boost creep issues and am seeing in the range of 14-15psi on the high end. I figured with the timing and fuel I'm running the car is probably making about 275whp up top, but without a dyno I really couldn't tell anyone for sure.
I watch as the Evo lifts it's nose a bit and blows off towards me. I look over again and see the kids big yellow **** eating choppers. I remember what he said to me last night, ok, let's see what you got. I downshifted to third to let him know that I was game for a go. He put up 3 fingers and I shook my head, and motioned for him to slow down a bit. I really didn't want to start from 70mph, so I tapped the brakes and slowed to about 50, then nodded to the Evo when I was ready.
Still in 3rd gear I waited for the Evo to start beeping down. I looked over at my tach, 4K. Just what I figured, I need to change that.
*Beep*
I quick scanned for cops or oncoming cars. We were in a portion of the highway that had no upcoming exits for at least another 2 miles. I'm glad he ran into me now.
*Beep*
I pushed the clutch in and began to revmatch, pulling the Skunk2 5stick into gear number two.
*Beep*
As soon as I heard the third beep I slammed my right foot on the floor and pulled my left foot off the clutch. Knowing I'd have traction I held on as the BFGs grabbed the asphalt instantly and the boost needle swung around the gauge like a windsheild wiper on crack. The CEL light flashed in my face almost as soon as I let the clutch out, and I slammed the shifter in 3rd. With my foot to the floor I watched as the tach swung back to 6500 and quickly started it's ascent to redline once again. The PLX M300 read a straight 12:0 - 11:8 even as the boost began to climb again. The Zex cam makes this engine absolutely howl on the top end. The Evo on the other hand wasn't fairing so well as he slipped back to my rear bumper ever so slowly. The needle swung around to 8200 lighting up the bright orange CEL light again. I pulled the shifter down into 4th and just watched the Evo continue to lose distance. I let the car ring itself out one last gear and softly shifted to 5th. The Synapse BOV let off a satisfying sigh and I tapped my brakes the let the Evo know that I had stopped accelerating. I looked down at the speedo to find the needle retreating from triple digit speeds. Just what I geared her for.
Apparantly he didn't take the hint as he raced passed me into the night. Last I saw I had about half a car on the Evo, wasn't a ton of distance but enough for him to know that I was victorious. I patted the steering wheel and returned to a sane speed while quickly scanning all of my gauges. Oil pressure good, coolant temp 185ish, wish I had my laptop I thought.
I finished off the night with an enjoyable cruise through some backroads and also a bit of VTAK ATTACK action in the twisties. Then parked the girl at home, kissed her goodnight, and went to sleep. :P

Go drive your car off one.
