Okay so earlier tonight me and my friend went out to an old road where we were away from traffic and everyone and raced. He has a 2001 honda civic ex coupe, all stock, stock SOHC vtec. Automatic.

I have a 1996 civic ex coupe, 5 speed, short shifter, Tenzo R CAI, DC sport headers (4-2-1 i think), Apexi World Performer 2 catback.

Now i dont know why but i got spanked, by a car length. I didnt take off so well and pulled almost 7k before i shifted to 2nd, but still i shouldnt have lost i dont think?

Maybe there is somthing wrong, my motor may be tired it was used for drag racing ALOT before i purchased it.

or the other car may have 10 more horsepower on you and more torque as well.

Apparently the other driver knows how to launch an automatic and you don't know how to drive...or your car had 500lbs of bricks in the trunk..pick your excuse:)

yeah i have no doubt that i suck at drag racing, i mean its the second time ive done it, ever, in this car. And i never really felt the need to so i didnt practice launching or anything of that sort. Guess i better now lol, if i want to show up and have a good rematch. And by the way a guy that lives next door to him that flagged us has the same car as me, well not the same, a 2000 civix ex coupe, all stock other than a body kit, 5 speed also, and he beat the guy that beat me by a car length, so i should win easily.

You probably can't launch for squat, and perhaps your shifting isn't as down as it should be.

Just practice at toll booths and on ramps, they're pretty much free ticket's to accelerate hard ;).

Don't try to do too much too fast or you'll grind gears, gradually shift quicker and get comfy doing it at dif strokes over time,or you'll miss gears and/or grind when it comes time for show. Find that perfect spotreleasing your clutch and pressing the gas, make sure you shift hard to ensure that the stick is in gear first.Everyonegrinds or misses gearsnow and then learning. They're lieing if they say they never do...

dont worry about it.. it happens to alot of new drag racers if u was shifting at 7,000 rpm it was jst probably your take off.. most drag races are won because of perfect take off.. just practise your take off... hold your revs at 3000 then lift the clutch up if you feel that doesnt work with your car do the same thing agen with 3500 revs or 3200... practise makes perfect ;)

i would say go out to ur place during the day or when there is no traffic and pratice, pratice, and pratice. Thats all it take. Shoot when I had gotten my 2nd civic I already knew what I need to work on to make my car go. All I needed to pratice is shifting because of a different location from the EK's. I started running in mid to high 16's then after pratcing i finally got it to a 15.0 so thats a lot of improvement to do like every one says find the sweet spot on the cuch where u have it pressed in but not all the way to where the car doesnt move when ur in 1st and then praticing holding ur rpm around 2500 to start out with. then just lift off the clutch slowy so u dont lose traction and once the rpms start to climb let off the clutch and go. BIG REMINDER if ur having traction issues or wheel hop dont go so high in the rpms.

i feel you man, i just got a 99 civic ex and i feel really slow getting out which i kno is just because im still learning a stick, I can drive the car normally but when i try to be the first one of the stop light i just sometimes cant keep up. And i grind into second sometimes, but i think im going to go practice tomorrow my start from first-second-third. I have got the sweet part down kinda (when you dont have to push the clutch down all the way), like from third to forth its no prob. but in those low gears i have trouble. I'm glad im not the only one with this problem.
