Default how do i know if i need to replace engine block?

i am hearing knocking and some people say my rods are blown. they told me instead of getting a new engine just get a new block. so how can i tell if i need one.

The only way to be 100% sure is to pull the engine out and inspect the block.

i toasted a rod bearing in my single cam. is the knocking slowly getting louder? mine started one day on the way to work as a VERY quiet tapping, and within about 40 miles it got so bad that it would stall out at stoplights, i couldnt even get home with it, i ended up having to tow it the last mile or so, it would still run, it just didnt have the power to move the car w/o stalling.

The is the exact same thing that happen to me yesterday it would stall out if i let off the gas that **** is ****ed up.

So what did you do?
