My 92 engine is finished with 210K+ miles. I want to keep the car and just freshen it up. Here are the specifics:

-I'll do all the work
-I want good fuel economy
-I dont want a project in which I have to splice and hack lots of wiring. A few splices or extensions will be fine, but nothing really time consuming
-2500 in total, dont want to spend any more than that, I'm having my Cobra engine built too.
-I'd like to add some hp and maybe some RPM
-I'd prefer to keep it Auto tranny
-A few months down the road ,a small turbo setup is not out of the picture, single digit boost levels.

I have done several swaps in Mustangs before, I can do all of the work quickly and correctly. I really want something plug and play as much as possible wiring wise, maybe that means matching ECU, harness, etc has to be budgeted in. You tell me. Any input appreciated

Okay, just for the record, $2500 will barely cover the swap package if you order from a swap site (Password:JDM, HMO, etc.) once you include the $2-300 for shipping, mounts, etc.

For under $2500, you can definitely swap to another d-series; d16z6's go for a few hundred and aren't bad engines.  They don't make as much power as DOHCs, but they're decent engines, and can produce more than enough power when boosted.

Now if your budget is $2500, give-or-take, you could swap in a b16 (honda's most overrated engine) or a b18b (cheap (sort of), non-vtec (so less wiring), and a good engine).  For a complete b-series swap, including mounts and everything else, you're probably looking at closer to $3k.

I'm not experienced with swaps (I'll hopefully be doing my first swap this summer), but I'm pretty sure you'll need to do a good bit of cutting and splicing the wiring harness with any series change.

Hell, if you could wait until I swapped my engine (hopefully by July or August), I'd sell you my d16z6 auto.  But from the sounds of it, you probably need to swap asap.

Would there really be that much splicing of wires if I had the ECu and harness? Am I missing something?

Well, I know going from a D-series to an H-series there's a decent bit.. I'm not sure about going from a D to a B.  I do know that if you go from a non-vtec engine (like your d15) to a vtec engine (d16z6, b16, b18c, h22, k20, etc.) you'll need to wire up the vtec.

I don't think any swap will require hours upon hours of cutting, extending, and splicing wires... especially if you do some research, find wiring diagrams for your particular swap, etc.

hello. let me see. ls b18 motor setup= $1500 whole setup. everything bolts on and need no wiring. turbo kit includes everything on ebay= $600. boost it at like say 4-6 and you get a fast car with decent gas miles. plus the ls tranny has longer ratios for longer spoll and better gas miles, so you won't be running like 4k rpms on the highway. that's just wat i'm planing to do for my 95 civic hatch cx.  got the whole motor swap for $1000 on ebay and runs fine with good gas miles like 30mpg in city and 35-40 on highway. w8ing for my tax return so i can put a t3 or t4 turbokit in it. so around $2100 for you to spend on a ls and turbo it. is it worth it. i say yeapers. good deal. that's wat i think and going to do. just don't over boost it and your fine. the only downfall is no vtec. only dohc. so for $2500 you can either get a b18 with vtec for 170hp and hit like 14-15 on the 1/4 mile, or spend about the same or even less for a ls turbo and get about 227 hp and hit mid 13's - mid 14's on the 1/4 mile. well it's your money and i can't tell u how to spend it, but that is were i'm going with my car and it's just an idea for you. laterz
