View Full Version : Mobsta's Nitrous Project
Mr Mobsta Man 01-06-2008, 01:12 PM Alright I have been hiding it for awhile but it's time to come clean about it, I have a drug problem.... I am addicted to nitrous oxide lol.
Since I am almost the only person on here that is going to run nitrous instead of a turbocharger I thought I would makea mini nitrous build threadon how to do it right then when I am installing everything I will write a diy on the install.
My setup isn't going to be anything special but I'm not just slapping on a kit and calling it good so here it is:
-ZEX Dry kit, running a 55 shot for awhile. I don't know if I will change it to a 65 or 75 later on yet. Fun fact: ZEX and NOS both measure their shots in crank hp and NX is the only one that I know of that measures their shots in whp.
-Simple purge kit, I'm not going to spend any extra money on the duel purges or ones with lights... just something to get the job done.
-Nitrous filter. Not extreamly nessisary but they are cheap so why not.
-2 Step colder plugs and replacing fuel filter just to be safe.
-I'm getting an external msd ignition coil and plug wires, some say honda's ignition systems are kind of weak at high revs so this should help a bit.
-MSD Three Stage Retard Control. For a 55 shot I do not need to retard timing but I am going to do 2* anyway, again to be safe. The cool thing about the three stage is so if I want to upgrade to a 2 or 3 stage nitrous system it can retard timing in stages as the nitrous stages change also.
-Fuel pressure safety switch. This is a sensor that you install inline on the fuel line and it measures fuel pressure, if it falls to low then you cannot activate nitrous saving your engine from going way to lean.
-MSD RPM activated window switch with 3k on and 7k off.
-Electronic nitrous, fuel pressure gauge and inovative wideband gauges on the a-pillar.
-ZEX maximizer kit. Adds another bottle to the system.
-Eventually bottle openers but not for awhile probably.
-Also holding off on a clutch, just hopeing this stock one will hold a 55 shot for awhile until I get time to install a stronger clutch.

I am ordering most of this stuff today and yesterday my dry nitrous kit got here which is the only thing I have pictures of at the moment. More pictures are comming in as soon as the parts do and when I install them.

mill$civic 01-06-2008, 02:07 PM I only knew one guy who had zex in a sick RSX, it was pretty sweet. You got to get a video of when you have it installed, nice set up!

Time to come clean... I have a drug problem
you always did look a little skinny.
Killer_B 01-07-2008, 01:17 PM well the first step to a 12 step program is admitting you have a problem.....so scratch off step 1.
im also runniing a Zex kit. 75 shot for me though. i have ARP head studs to hold it together.
FlipHKD720 01-08-2008, 11:28 AM wow how did i miss this? Well Mobsta you wrote the FAQ, so hopefully you know what you're doing :)and good luck for sure man
didder 01-09-2008, 04:39 PM sweeeeet, i actually wanted to run a 55 shot on my setup to, just so i can say im built, boosted, and spraying [sm=badbadbad.gif]. let us know how you like it, nitrous sounds like to much fun!
Mr Mobsta Man 01-13-2008, 10:49 AM Minor update, I got my purge kit in the mail friday and I also decided that I will be upgrading to a 255LPH fuel pump and getting an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

The reason I haven't be buying things as quickly as I would like... I needed to know how much my speeding ticket would cost...
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd277/MrMobstaMan/DSC00025.jpg
I still have enough for most of the setup and by the time comes to where I will actually be using the kit (tracks during the summer) I will have it all together for sure. I am ordering the maximizer kit with a nitrous gauge and manifold and the nitrous filter later today.
Mr Mobsta Man 01-20-2008, 03:28 PM Maximizer kit came yesterday

I finished installing the whole basic system so far. I was nervous as hell drilling into my $300 intake... lol

I didn't get to install the purge kit yet because it came with the wrong fitting for the hose to solenoid so I had them send me another one, when it gets here I will install it.
addiction2bass 01-20-2008, 04:08 PM green cluster ;)
just looks like ya should have TWEAKED it a little... or maybe its just the angle the 7RPM doesn't look lite...
;) tho the cop picture is amusing.....
so wheres the PURGE lines? ya know ya need some green lights on it to match [8D]
looks good under the hood. tho IMO i think it would realy pop if ya polished those raised lettering on the valve cover...

I do need to tweak it I think but I think I put the gauges back in before the glue cooled down and now I can't get them to come back out and I am scared to pull too hard becasue I think they will break, one of the strips are also interfering with the trip odo. so it is messed up and I can't reset it. it is stuck on 222... lol ooops.
I might get a green purge light but that would be after I get everything else I need on my list bought but I am not sure if I am going to or not.
FlipHKD720 01-20-2008, 08:13 PM wow, my LED strips screwed up my trip odomoeter too, i'm stuck at 972 lol
nitrous project looks like its coming good :) get the green purge light if you have the money, thatd fit your car well
warrenG 01-20-2008, 09:10 PM NOS FTW!
good luck dude... im sure it will work out well.
just hide the bottle better in the trunk... lol cops dont like nos too much.
Mr Mobsta Man 01-20-2008, 09:14 PM lol zex not nos man.... and I don't keep the bottle in it when I actually drive it, I just put it in for the picture and to mark where I needed to drill holes for the brackets.

techincally you r right you have a zex system, but NOS stands for Nitrous Oxide Sysytem, so you r both right lol
addiction2bass 01-21-2008, 01:38 AM ya for the trip milage you have to route the strips so it wont hit it... i ran into the same problem when doing it as well i just moved the strips alittle more to clear..
main thing is when using hot glue is to HOLD the strips inplace until the glue dries.... if ya let go they can move/slide over slowly... i think this is how my final strip was routed...
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/NEW%2099%20Civic%20EX/LED%20CLUSTER/ledsdone004.jpg
i think that is... ill be pulling the cluster this week sometime because im geting some stockers in the mail so i can put the car back stock to sell it... so ill take somemore pictures of it when i pull the strips out.
it just takes alittle tweaking, just experiment with moving the strips around a bit and keep testing the milage trip needle.
you guys must have circled the whole flexstrip down on the right side... that will get in the way of the trim meter, downfall is its a tight fit with the other strip... on mine it looks like a long piece, but they are just touching eachother very tightly
Mr Mobsta Man 01-27-2008, 06:32 PM Anyway back on track, I spent my last $800 on gauges and a speeding ticket so I am building my setup from paycheck to paycheck now.
I will post pictures of the gauges tomorrow (Autometer Cobalt Fuel pressure, nitrous pressure, and AEM UGEO Wide band)
I got the right fitting sent to me for the purge kit and installed it today, I would have a video of purging to show you guys but I don't have any nitrous yet. :(

Maximizer kit installed:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd277/MrMobstaMan/bottlesintrunk.jpg
The bottle on the right is the old style which is why it is mounted different, I am going to buy the new style brackets and mount it like the bottle on the left so it is symmetrical. (I'm a perfectionist)
steveabbott 01-27-2008, 07:50 PM whoah looks good dude.. ****ty luck with the ticket tho that sets ya back a bit
Mr Mobsta Man 02-25-2008, 12:26 PM Okay, finally some more updates. I got new brackets for my old bottle so it will match the maximizer kit better, got the 3 stage msd ignition timing controller, got the rpm window switch/traction control device from ZEX (I found this not long ago, it does both the rpm window and lets me pick what gear my nitrous starts spraying it and it was cheaper than the msd window switch.) I am going to spray the 55 shot in first and see how that works but when I move up to a 75 I might have to make it start in second I am not sure yet.
I also ordered an MSD Sports compact ignition with a blaster coil and spark plug wires. In a few days I am going to get the colder plugs, I have just been putting this off for awhile because the people at advance and auto zone around here are a little less than helpful most of the time.
ZEX RPM Window switch:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd277/MrMobstaMan/DSC00086.jpg
I will install this tonight probably so I will have an updated picture of it soon.
MSD Timing Controller:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd277/MrMobstaMan/DSC00084.jpg
I am going to have to wait until the rest of my msd ignition stuff gets here before I can install this.
They do also make this extremely easy too, it comes with an assortment of pills so you just have to plug in the ones you want and you can swap them quick.
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd277/MrMobstaMan/DSC00085-1.jpg
This can be mounted in the engine bay but it is still fairly large so I don't know where to put it yet.
New license plate finally:

95civic1.6l 02-25-2008, 12:57 PM nice. Can't wait to see it all done. Nice license plate
Method 02-25-2008, 03:37 PM save some money and buy a damn camera.!!!
jpnolan 02-25-2008, 04:12 PM lisence LOL haha
Mr Mobsta Man 02-26-2008, 04:23 PM Okay I borroweda better camera. lol. Also installed the rpm switch/traction controller and the new bottle brackets.

The trunk still needs a lot of work. There is something about 97 civics where the trunks leak and it is hard to find where from, I have siliconed the hell out of it and it still leaks. After I fix the leak the wood will be covered in black suede and the carpet on the side will be dyed black.
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd277/MrMobstaMan/DSC00090.jpg
I could defiantly do a better job tucking the wires butI'm not gonna worry aboutit since it is under the hood, you don't see them much.
GReddy_Civic 02-26-2008, 04:35 PM good luck fixing the civic trunk leak...its a plague
mybrokenblinker 02-26-2008, 08:45 PM tell me about it....
The leak is from the sunroof drain hoses. Easy fix. Pull the carpet back on the sides of the trunk and in the "pockets" there are hoses on each side of the car that rot or get detached...fix them
Mr Mobsta Man 02-27-2008, 12:37 PM I've looked at them, they are still attached and appear to not be clogged. I can see a small hole in the metal on the drivers side where water is dripping in but it is like a reinforcement and has another sheet of metal above it so I don't think that is where it is actually getting in.
