do they have a website?
www.scca.com more specifically for autox: http://scca.com/hub.aspx?hub=3

is there one near San Jose California
http://scca.com/divisions.aspx<click on the map to find regions near you.

how old do you have to be
need a valid drivers license, if under 18 u'll need to have a parental consent form filled out.
http://www.scca.com/documents/Club%2..._W_Program.pdf

are there certain car specifications
just needs to pass tech inspection. its very simple and straight forward.
they check:
-wheels to make sure wheel bearings are good and lug nuts are tight
-tires to make sure no cords are showing
-interior/trunk for any loose items that could be dangerous
-battery to make sure its held in securly with battery tie-down
-blip the throttle to make sure it dosnt stick
-check brake fluid reservoir
and some other simple stuff..

what are the car classes
class depends on what mods u have. most civics with basic engine(i/h/e) and suspension mods fit into Street Touring Sport(STS). read the scca rule book for HS, STS, SM, and DSP(i believe some modded civics run DSP, someone correct me if im wrong).

and anyother relative info thanks guys i dont think i would do it with my 03 lx but hopefully next year im praying for a project car depending on the rents
just go out and have fun!! try not to go mod crazy thinking everything is going to make u faster because it really wont. the car is only as fast as the driver;)

RE: Autocross questions

worst comes to worst, drag them out to an eventjust to watch. its a very safe environment, they take all the precautions necessary and follow the rules set by SCCA. its safer to run ur car at these events than driving a few miles to the event.

RE: Autocross questions

no racing license required to autox, just a valid drivers license. dont need to rent a car either since u'll be using ur own.

RE: Autocross questions

Check local autocrossing groups too that are non scca affiliated. The group i autox with is not scca but follows the same rules, but since they're not scca, the events are much cheaper.

RE: Autocross questions

just a quick googlesearch

Porsche Club- http://www.pca-ggr.org/dont worry, u probably dont need a Porsche to run with them. ill be running with the local Porsche club this year..

Lotus Club- http://www.gglotus.org/ggpast/2005school/xschool.htm

BMW CCA- http://www.ggcbmwcca.org/?page=calendarsame with Porche club, prolly dont need a BMW to run with them. i also added them to my list of events to attend this year.

just search around, maybe email someone from the scca website. u can also join up on http://sccaforums.com/Default.aspxand try to find some local events through there. u may not find an event within an hours drive butif u do, ur lucky..alot of ppl drive 1+ hours to make events.
