2008 Si Sub

hey guys ... i just got my new 2008 Si Coupe... it comes with 350watt sound system includes 8" sub.. which is not as good as i had 12" in my old 2000 jetta.

is it possible i can change the sub & get something better 10" or 8" with better quality. I don't want to put the box. anyone have done before.. get better sound changing factory sub/amp BUT no box in the trunck...

You'll need a box unfortunately. The sub that comes stock is an open air sub, meaning it isn't enclosed. It uses the trunk, basically. There are very few companies (if any) that will make one that will fit there and sound good. The bigger problem though, is that to get more hit, you'll need more power, so you're pretty much back to the box, with an amp.

One suggestion would be to get a stealth box from jl audio. Its expensive however they minimize taking up trunk space. They are fiberglass and are carpeted to match the trunk (although I do not know what type of material they would use since the new civics do not really have "true" carpet (at least mine does not). They usually have 1 10" or 1 12, depending on application. They sound very good as well as they are designed exactly for that type of car, trunk, etc.

Depends on your budget, for the doors I guess. If you are tight on money polk momo's are good. If you do not have a spending limit, Focals or boston acoustics powered by a audison amp would be my choice.

i didn't get that open air sub concept ....
i move from Pakistan 5 years ago, over there subwoofer introduced that time ... everyone installing on the same place Si has. No concept of putting box in the trunk, awsome sound even using Tapes instead cd's

i will search more to get sub on the factory place.... per 07blksi ... i will look into stealth box.
