Default Help with 01 ex coupe sub/amp install

Ok, I have done head unit, amplifier, and subwoofer installtions before on many cars and suvs.
But this is the first time I have run into a problem(this is my first time working on a Honda though, not saying anything bad about Hondas at all. I love my honda!!). I have the head unit installed aready (this was installed on my previous car) with no problems.

The head unit is a DUAL XDM7510: 55x4 Peak Power (http://www.dualav.com/receivers/xdm7510.html)
The amplifier is a Rockford Fosgate P30022-Channel 300watts Peak Power 75W x 2 @ 4-Ohms RMS(http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...p;locale=en_US)
(2) Rockford Fosgate P1-12S4 300Watts Peak Power 150Watts RMS (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...p;locale=en_US)
All wired with 4-guage wire.

So here is the problem, I had gone out to hook up my subwoofers and amplifiers but once I finished and hooked everything up and hooked up the battery cables, I started the car. Immediately the battery light came on along with the Check Engine Light andmy speedometer stopped working. I took it to Dobbs and had them check everything out (this is after I had detached the amplifier power cable from the battery, hoping autozone could erase the codes and everything would be fine). Dobbs had told me that I had simply popped the fuse out of place when installing the radio and this caused the battery light to come on because the fuse was also connected to the speedometer and the alternator, so there was no longer a charge going to the battery.

Well, now I am a little scared of hooking up the amplifier and subs. I am wondering if anyone has run into this problem or anything like it. And if anyone has any advice in this situation. If you have hooked up a system for a 2001 Honda Civic Coupe EX in this similar way or with similar products/wattage please let me know. What types/size of batteries are you all using with your systems? Are you using a stock alternator or High output alternator. What are the charging amps on your battery.
Thank you in advance for all your help. You guys are great.
