do you have a CEL light on?
if so most likely the speed sensor... if not could be the clusters speedo...

thnaks for the help guys really helpful, the car doesnt seem to be charging the batteryaswell now for some frustrating reason. all the wiring is plugged in and belt is on. goin to check it for voltage tommoro from the alternator. the car has had a new engine fitted by me recently. the strange thing was it did 600 miles before gettin any problems atall. not sure whether these faults are related, because te speedo went before the aternator stopped working. and the cellight didnt come on when the speedo stopped working. but it does now due to the alternator not working. thank again for the help good diagrams!!

RE: need to find the fault in the speedo system

A failing alternator can trigger the charging light (battery symbol) to turn ON but not the CEL. Therefore, you may get new insights into your problems by retrieving the CEL code(s) as described here:

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1901557

After you retrieve the code, note it and then clear the ECU. If the CEL turns ON again, retrieve the code to verify that it is the same as before. Troubleshoot any repeated fault code and make appropriate repairs.
