I dont know if this will stay active enough to make it to the HCF project section, but I'll use this to keep everyone updated on my progress anyhow. As far as I've gotten so far is to strip the engine to a bare block and clean everything. I've also got some Tuner Toys rods on the way, I'll have some shots comparing them to the stock pieces when they get here.

Here's my workspace, I'm having to compete with christmas storage and and 4 bikes..

god damn those rods look weeeeeeeeak. What are your final plans of this build? And good luck!

kokasian

My big goal is a 300hp+ panty dropping teal speed machine. Rods, pistons, built head, 50-something trim t3/t4, obx lsd, and tuned on either crome or hondata S100. Just think flip, thats what your rods look like and you're boosting:( Thanks for the luck..I need it

yes yes i know, i'm more worried about my rings, but rods are still a concern. Anyway, that thing should be sick, good luck! I'd prolly go with Hondata if i was doing anything more than 200-250 hp. Just from what Sov says Crome can be pretty buggy, especially recognizable by an experienced tuner, so i think the Hondata would be a good idea for you.

EDITED for grammar, i have no idea why i misspelled so many words lol

Very nice. Are you going with Vitaras?

kokasian
02-20-2008, 04:53 AM
I wanted vitaras but my job picked back up and I got my hours back, so I might get some SRPs, I havent made a final decision yet

kokasian
02-21-2008, 04:02 PM
Little update, just ordered my 75.5mm vitaras. I got them in a kit with rod bearings and rings for about $160 after shipping. I got it from here http://fjdistributors.com/index.php

little FYI on the tuner toys rods, you will ahve to have them machined to fit a wrist pin and the width of the top upper part of the rod because its to wide to fit inside any piston(s) like cp, wiseco, JE, SRP, Ross and im pretty sure vitaras as well. Mine are at the machine shop now and ands its costing me $135 to have the work done to the rods[:@]. so those $250 dollar rods just turned into $385 dollar rods, if you can send them back and get eagles so you get the 2000 bolts and they are all ready to go and machined

kokasian
02-22-2008, 10:45 AM
Damn, I wish I would have known. It'd be a 20% restocking fee if I send them back. I guess I'll stick with the TT rods for now because of the hassle of sending them back

riceburner700
02-22-2008, 12:43 PM
yeah, but yeah just for future reference i wish i would of known as well but what ya gonna do lol. but who knows your rods might fit into the vitaras

Oh well, its not like I'm in a hurry to get this done anyhow. The gf is coming in a few weeks and staying for the summer so this will be on hold until she leaves. I'll just watch her wash my car to keep my busy, lol

Did i hear your going to put in an OBX LSD? I d love to see some pics of the install. Also, are you going to play with the gears at all?

kokasian
02-23-2008, 08:38 AM
Yes I'm going to get an OBX LSD and I'm using my stock DX trans. I'm not sure how lond it will be before I get to it, though

didder
02-23-2008, 09:45 AM
stock dx trans is going to be a really weird tranny under tons of boost, really long gears, will be fun to hear how you like it...

installing the obx lsd, well, its not easy! its as far into the tranny as you can go, under the final drive... your going to have to get 2 new differential bearings pressed on the obx lsd before you even start and your going to have to get your speedo gear pressed off the stocker and put back on your obx lsd, the obx has a much smaller ridge for the speedo gear than the stock one so i dont know if a custom speedo gear is needed or if you can just use the stock gear, i had major problems with this part of my install, i didnt have the dif bearings and i would of had to order them, so i had to install it back to stock after HOURS of labor..

and another thing, be careful when tearing the trans down, there are a bunch of little ball bearings behind screws and springs and they like to fall out and roll under stuff. i popped off my tranny cover and almost fainted, its a VERY scary place to be without knowledge of teh area [&:]

p.s. i wish my gf would wash my car :(

riceburner700
02-23-2008, 03:43 PM
lol i did the same thing with the ball bearings when i took my ex tranny apart, just sat there and watched them roll away[>:] found them luckaly and foud were they go back together:D

kokasian
02-23-2008, 04:10 PM
I may buy a used tranny to put the diff in. Si trannies are hard to come by here, I know there is a Dx trans in pic n' pull

didder
02-24-2008, 12:08 AM
an ex tranny is pretty decent, or you could buy a new final drive for $500 and drop your gear ratios down, they say a final drive can increase accel 15%

Update, got my rods and pistons in the same day, Fedex and USPS collaboration ftw, lol.

Great news, the wrist pins slipped right in the rods. Just put a little oil on them and it was like a glove. I'll take all this to the shop tonight and get some shots to compare the stock parts to these.

good luck on the project... those new rods look a ton stronger:D

And p.s. I wish my girlfriend would wash my car, but in the back of my mind, I'd be thinking "That girl's car has been washed twice in the 8 months she's had it, and I washed it last time... Does she even know how to wash a car?" [8D]

Small update. Got a quote for all my engine work yesterday. It'll be around $700 for it being bored, line bored, decked, hot tanked, P&P job 3 angle valve job and having the block notched. Not nearly as bad as I thought. Bad news though, this is officially going on hold now. I need to save money to take the gf somewhere nice when she gets here. booty>engine

The people that are doing my headwork have a 544whp H22 EG. I think I'm in pretty good hands, lol. I'm thinking about getting a loan to finish stuff up and have it done before summer gets in full swing.

The GF isnt as hard on my pockets as I thought she was going to be, so the project lives! I've just ordered skunk2 valve springs and retainers for $311 shipped. I'll post pics of the new hardware when it gets here. I also got qoted about $250 for a P&P and 3 angle valve job. The head will be done in about two weeks if this keeps up:D

should get some pics up of the port and polish, What kind of port and polish are they doing like a simple gasket matched or a full blown race head with worked intake/exhaust and combustion chambers?

I believe I'm going with worked intake/exhaust ports. I'm not sure how much I'm going to get them to port it but I'm at least getting everything nice and smooth. They told me they'd cut me a deal because of the shop that referred me to them, hence the $250. I'll talk with them a bit and decide what all will be best for my application.

..and its a d16z6, btw

kokasian
04-10-2008, 02:06 PM
I'd like it to be really driveable but I'm going to try for as much power as I can get on 93 octane. At least 300whp, 350-400 would be sweet :)

reaper2022
04-10-2008, 02:26 PM
300 horses at the wheels in a fwd is "really driveable"? I'm not so sure lol :D... it'll be fun to drive though

riceburner700
04-10-2008, 07:55 PM
were pushing 400whp in a DD and its just fine as long as you are trying to race and see how fast you can accelerate. Man when we hit 300 we thought we would be held over for a while and happy with 300. The next day we were changing things up and shooting for 400. Now that we accomplished that were shooting for even higher. Its insane what boost does to you

kokasian
04-10-2008, 08:27 PM
You mean its fine as long as I'm NOT racing, right? Do you have any clue what the limit is for a vitara build on pump gas?

GReddy_Civic
04-10-2008, 08:43 PM
ive heard them makin 300 but dunno anything beyond that

riceburner700
04-11-2008, 07:24 AM
all in the tune man. like i said were pushing 400 at the wheels on 91 octane with zero detonation:D

kokasian
04-11-2008, 07:42 AM
I've just heard stories that vitara pistons heat up easily and cause detonation. Meh, most people dont know what the hell they're talking about anyhow

riceburner700
04-11-2008, 08:13 AM
and we are running eagle hbeams with vitara pistons:D super low compression like low 8.1

kokasian
04-11-2008, 08:22 PM
Thats good to hear. 400hp on 93 shouldn't be much of a problem then. I'm kinda worried about the power curve though. 400hp sounds great but I dont want only 2000 usable RPM. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with a GT series ball bearing turbo, I'm just not sure what size yet. I've found a gt2871R for $955 brand new and I'm pretty sure that'll support my power needs and have a decently early spool

[&:]no kidding. I'm already thinking of buying a spare block to build and the tuning module to tuned my edelbrock piggyback to 300hp, all while still staying CARB Legal hehehehe:)

Good luck with the build kokasian.
