I know you street-racers out there have had some close calls before, so let hear them! It can be anything that almost went bad, be it your car breaking, or barely escaping death. Ill start:
One night I was coming home from church. I stopped at a light and a van was next to me. As It turned green I heard a rumble and looked over to see a solid black formula firebird in the third lane over. He gave me a hand motion and we both punched it. He slowly pulled on me through 3rd, and 4th. As I shifted into 5th gear his bumper was at my hood. I looked over at his passenger waving goodbye to me (the thought went through my head of how hilarious this would be If i had nitrous =P). As I looked forward I saw it, some old lady in a minivan sitting at a street a little ways up. Surely she wouldnt pull out in front of someone this close, much less someone going this fast, but something told me to slow down anyway. She started across the highway and I slammed on my brakes. Sure enough the old lady continued across the highway, through the turning lane, and right in front of the firebird that was now going about 120mph. He swerved into the lane where I was in previously about 2 seconds ago, missing her bumper by inches. I could only imagine what would have happened if I hadnt been cautious and not given up the race.

about a year aog, i was coming home from a hockey game...it was about 3am...maybe later, as we had a very late ice slot... i travelled down the interstate with no issues, and when i got off i began the long wind through backroads that take me home....as i stop at the end of the offramp and VERY beat up white civic with a muffler and no back window goes up the hill past me slowing to take a good look at my car....i wasnt really paying much attention, so i turned and headed up the hill in the same direction that he went...as i crested the hill, he was sitting at a stop sign. i got there, and also stopped, and saw that he had no tags...he turned his lights off and very slowly left the stop light...after stopping, i also pulled out, but was quickly behind him, seeing as how he was only going maybe 10 mph...both of the guys in the back seat were turned to face me, laughing and talking...i could hear them laughing, but even with the lack of the rear hatch glass, i couldnt make out what they were saying...they slowed more, and more..until we will almost stopped, so i pulled back into 1st gear, and pulled along side to ask them what was wrong, and when i did i opened my window and heard someone yell DO IT! and the driver swerved toward me, and luckily i saw him doing it, so i swerved away and hit it, getting ahead of him...he also jumped on it, and this stretch is about a half mile long with a very steep downhill 90 degee blind turn at the end...i saw headlights coming around that turn so i got ahead of him and got back into the right lane as the car came around the turn and as soon as it was clear, he swung into the left lane and as we came around the turn, he narrowly cut in behind me to avoid hitting another car head on...at this point i pulled back into 3rd and let it wind out, putting some gap between us...and as we hit the next 90 degree turn, it crosses a very busy 5 lane road, and the light was red, with some minor cross traffic...i began to slow as i neared the bend, and he swung out around me, and i heard him hit the guard rail, with sparks flying everywhere and i decided that i wasnt stopping at the light...i ran the light cleanly but he took it too wide and to fast, because on the other side of the intersection is another sharp 90, i made it, he went off the road into the grass...at this point i was just disgusted and just wanted to get home...but about 5 miles up the road, i saw headlights closing quickly, and sure enough, it was him again...we peaked the next hill side by side, and i had enough, so i let him in front of me, and when he swerved over to cut me out, he hit the guard rail again, and as we passed a group of houses, he glanced off of a parked car....not takin any chances as he kept brake checking me, i called my dad and told him to call a friend of his who was a local cop, and i got off the phone and went back around them and the passenger threw something glass over the roof of their car which landed short of my car and broke and i had to go through someones yard to avoid hitting oncoking traffic and a parked car....and as we creshed the last sharp turn they cut wide of me and hit a pole hard enough to spin them around..and i headed home...

as soon as i got home, i called my dads friend who is a cop, and he told me that he called the station and spoke to the night desk person, and that same incident had been reported several times that night...with 2 of the cars sustaining damage from him swerving into them...i checked with a few of my friends who have modded hondas if they knew who it might be, but they said while they had heard about it, they didnt know who it was...that is really the only issue ive ever gotten into that has stuck with me in street racing...but im not sure if youd really call those morons racers...

I've had so many close calls, I can't even count them. The one that scared me the most was when I was racing an S2000 down Highway 40. I came up on this SUV that was in my lane (the fast lane) doing about 130. The S2000 was right at my rear bumper at the time, because I let off the gas. I decided to go for it and swerved between the S2000 and the SUV doing about 135. I kept control of the car and stayed in it and put bus lengths on the S2000 before it was all said and done. That scared me more than anything else, mainly because I wasn't sure I could make it, but I did it anyway.

haha, true true. im not a gun toting ediot, although I do currently live in indiana! no, i love all people and races and religions, except for people who drive domestics. i simply have it because i do alot of business in detroit, chicago and indianapolis. with the number of "my civic got stolen" posts on honda-tech every day, it gives me a piece of mind. also- fort wayne indiana was just named the dumbest city in america. with all these ediot, road raging drivers, i try not to leave home without it. i just pray i never have to even pull it, not because it would be scary or anything...im a horrible shot!

Hey, Patrick, I had an incident just like yours, but it was a neon trying to get me off the road. I was in a better position though since I was the first car of a long procession(we were going camping) and I was in a grand caravan and my friend behind me was in a lifted tacoma. We boxed this idiot at 60mph and simply made him pull over. Than we made him pay for my rear bumper and scratches on my buddy's push-bumper and crushed his valve stems.
