View Full Version : accident! Got my car back!!!
95civic1.6l 03-19-2008, 01:02 PM Driving through an interesection and a old woman decided to do a double lane change right into me completely oblivious to my scretching tires and my honking my horn. After she hit me and decided to stop and get out. She said are you the person who hit me? I said no you hit me you did a double lane change which is illegal. I had the right of way. And you didn't move even after i honked. She was all confused and stupid. I had a friend that was driving a few cars behind me and saw the whole thing. When the cop came he said that he wouldn't be a good witness because he is my friend and would say what ever i wanted him to say. What a load of ****. If that was true then it wouldn't really have mattered weither he was in the car with me. Do you guys think its totalled. It makes a weird noise i have never heard before its not metal on the tire. Can't figure out what it is. Pulls to the right. what do you guys think?
macbeth18288 03-19-2008, 01:07 PM How does it look?
Post some pictures.

macbeth18288 03-19-2008, 01:22 PM Wow. that's pretty bad
How about insurance?
95civic1.6l 03-19-2008, 01:39 PM Hopefully the woman is at falt and i get money to get a new car. cuz i need one now
Gonzo 03-19-2008, 02:06 PM I absolutley hate old people driving. They're bad eye sight, hard time paying attention, hearing problems, and iggnorance makes for a pretty bad martini of driving. Then they cause an accident, blame you. and then, who are they going to belive. The little old lady, or the kid with the modded Civic?
I would say try to take her to court, or talk to your insurance. She's obviously at fault, and we want that Civic to it's former glory.
95civic1.6l 03-19-2008, 02:17 PM The cop was an asshole but he said it was probably her fault. I wanted to get an rsx type-s but my parents are like o you need to be realistic and all the bull****. I might just have to go get another civic that is standard. And throw a b16 in it or something like that.
cyberx32 03-19-2008, 04:48 PM Damn she hit you kinda hard. Would that new noise be air? or is it something else. And if it pulls to the right im pretty sure something got bent up.
Red98 03-19-2008, 07:47 PM Damn! Thats a hard hit man good luck
Gene J 03-19-2008, 07:50 PM I hope her damage is to the front of her car, for your sake. Here in Illinois, the car with the frontal damage gets charged with the accident. I'm curious how you had time to honk but not stop. Just wondering.
Willby24 03-19-2008, 07:59 PM He said screeching tires and horn... just so you know

Are you telling me that even if it was clearly the other person's
fault the car with frontal damaged car is charged?
They don't even stop to consider it?
I don't think that's true.
I don't see how that can even be made a general statement by Illinois law enforcement or whoever.
There are always circumstances that one has to consider.
And yea:
"completely oblivious to my scretching tires and my honking my horn"
Civic Si 00 03-19-2008, 08:43 PM WOW!!!! Hard hit....Good luck Bro... Nail those old punks
addiction2bass 03-19-2008, 09:02 PM well thats not not afront end accident thats a side swipe. if they took pictures of her cars damage then they should be able to see exactly how the damage is on her car and can easily tell if she swiped you or you hit her. paint scraps and bent metal will show that!
but definatly talk to that ladies insurance company! because they SHOULD pay for it! but you need to take the car to a alignment shop to see what all is damaged. most likely it bent the lower control arm or maybe upper from that hit, check the upper strut tower to see if its bent around the upper arm mounts.
youd also want to have the rim checked for bends as well, cause i see that the hubcap was smashed into the rim, so it could also have bent the rim to cause a vibration.
but for the time beeing if you have to drive it just remove that fender or at least the inner plastic fender liner. cause that looks pretty close to the wheel.
but doesnt look to bad..... but sometimes the cars cheaper to replace than rebuild.... PERSONALY i would buy it back if they do total it and fix it and use the extra cash for extra parts...
and on a side note old people will probably always get a liscence because people at the liscence brand feel sorry for them!
I KID YOU NOT!!!!!! when i was at the liscence branch renewing my old liscence plates this older lady was renewing her liscence and it took her 2-3mins on the EYE test thing TO READ THE WRONG LINE VERY SLOWLY! another 3-4mins to YES READ ANOTHER WRONG LINE VERY SLOWLY AGAIN, and then 2-3 mins to start reading the right line (suposedly) for all i know the liscence brand lady just said YA THATS RIGHT and it still been the wrong line!
i was freaked out like WTF!!!!!!!! hell if i got 1-2 letter wrong im sure they would have said NO you need glasses or i read the line THAT SLOW!
i was just ready to leave long before she left!
I WISH YOU LUCK with the whole thing!
and with next time ya talk with the cops dont tell them your witness is your FRIEND..... ;) just a WITNESS which he is :)
Ej1Rider 03-19-2008, 10:45 PM dude that sucks man, sorry to hear that.... hopefully you get it all straightened out

not here in tn last year a old man hit my wife in the left rear quarter panel and they said she was at fault. they tried to get her for failure to yield but we fought the charge and won we i went down to the crash site there where no skids marks from his car and his cell phone was in the pass side floor board. so that tells me he was on the phone didn't see my wife and t-boned her he is 70 years old

Gene J 03-19-2008, 11:55 PM Since in court most accidents come down to he said/she said, here in Illinois they tend to say the person with the frontal damage had the best chance of avoiding the accident, and thus gets charged with the accident. I am not saying who is at fault, just who is going to get blamed.
By the way, most accidents are caused by the newer drivers, not the old geezers. My 90 year-old mother stopped driving at 88 with a blemish free record. Why do you think insurance rates are highest for younger unmarried drivers? I am 65 and only pay $350/ 6 months for full coverage on my '06 LX.
I too have met my share of older drivers that should not be on the road. I am guessing that the older drivers have fender benders and the youngsters have the more serious ones, thus the higher insurance rates.

good grief your 65 and pay $350 every 6 months, i'm going on 41 and pay the same amount.

I wouldn't go that far. Yes, younger drivers get into a lot of accidents because they are careless, and don't put forth enough effort towards paying attention. That, and you've got all the "I'm 16 years old and indestructable!" kinda kids.
However, old people most times don't have the ability to react in time under emergency circumstances. Reaction times are slower, sight/hearing isoften weaker, and for crying out loud a lot of them drive so slow that its dangerous. 45mph on a 70mph limited highway? That is not safe, at all.
mk378 03-20-2008, 06:35 AM Did the cop write either of you a ticket? If she got a ticket you go to court and let the judge decide if your friend is a trustworthy witness or not. Also go back to the scene and get pictures of skid marks that were made by either car, where the bits of your corner light landed, and some general views. Again if you get a day in court you want to prepare a drawing of exactly what happened and back it up with photos.
Damage looks repairable unless the frame/suspension is severely bent. If they total it out, elect to keep the car and repair it. The strange noise is probably just the plastic fender liner rubbing on the tire.
addiction2bass 03-20-2008, 07:00 AM ya if you can get a picture of her car also...
i used to carry a disposable camera in my car but unfortunatly my old girl friend used that camera and ive never bought a new one. i need to tho! its always best to take pictures of the accident scene when the wreck happens...
cause after the cops come they will sweep any debri to the side of the road...

........and for crying out loud a lot of them drive so slow that its dangerous. 45mph on a 70mph limited highway? That is not safe, at all.
Yes, but look at the good mileage thay are getting. (That's a joke, guys)
Keep in mind this is corporate America here. Your (my) accidents are less about who is at fault, and more about who's insurance companyhas to pay.
I smile every time I hear a youngster complain about older drivers. Every one of the older drivers were once young and said the same things you are saying. Now they are old hearing you talk bad of them. Keep in mind you will be there yourselves soon.....
95civic1.6l 03-20-2008, 11:55 AM I got the police report today and she got cited for the accident and my friend is in the report saything that she did a double lane change and hit my bumper. I sent him the paperwork today via fax and he said he will get in touch with her insurance agencey and an appraiser will come out and look at my car. There are no pictures of my scid marks because it was raining yesterday. I drove by today. But the police officer saw parts of my car which looked like she hit me. Should i strip my system out of my car and everything else out of it? My strut bars and ****.? intake?
jamned 03-20-2008, 12:47 PM Sorry to hear about your accident. That sounds like plain incompetence on the other driver's part.
Before you remove anything, see what the insurance company says. If they total it, then you might want to strip some of your mods off if you indeed decide to let them total it. If they don't, then you save the effort of stripping the parts out now and putting them back in later.
95civic1.6l 03-20-2008, 01:54 PM true good point.

o i do and i would feel ALOT BETTER if a family member took there liscence and car from them!
my one grandpa has ran thru redlights ALOT and had the tickets to show for it! and he has totaled several cars from Tboning other inocent drivers. plus his car was like a death trap! horble brakes, most the electronics didnt work...
and my dad ended up taking his car and liscence away. it maybe hard BUT ITS WORTH POSIBLY SAVING THERE LIFE!!!!!!!! and others lives as well.
they need to be tuffer on renewing liscences.... like 1 a time limit on the eye test and 2-3 wrong and ya fail... and also a driving test!
as long as they can see and can react intime to stuff then they can go another what 4-6years with there liscence but if not no....
it should be just like when you get your liscence at first... and im saying that like every 2times you get renewed you should have to do the driving test as well as the eye test... writen test not so much....
addiction2bass 03-20-2008, 03:04 PM and well anything quick and easy to remove i would remove just to make it look as stock as posible....
but thats just the subs in the back, and the strut bar. i wouldnt worry about the intake. a intake doesnt mean your a racer ;)
95civic1.6l 03-20-2008, 03:30 PM I got 4 strut bars and my system thats all i really care about
Im looking at getting a 2000 ex coupe 5spd manual
addiction2bass 03-20-2008, 03:40 PM well i wouldnt remove the lower strut bars.LOL just the uppers.
95civic1.6l 03-20-2008, 03:42 PM lol
could i put those strut bars on a 99 civic???
addiction2bass 03-20-2008, 03:43 PM im pretty sure you can... all 92-00 civics
95civic1.6l 03-20-2008, 04:36 PM I want to put an alarm in my next car is it hard? i know about electronics and stuff like that. What is a good company? and a good alarm?
Grimey Civic 03-20-2008, 06:55 PM got a 94 dx just about the exact same damage done to it and it was deamed totaled. but i see you located in mass youll be able to find some guys to fix it up pretty cheap.
95civic1.6l 03-20-2008, 07:55 PM I don't want it fixed i want a coupe lol

Lol wow your convinced on a new car, youll actually be dissapointed if they dont total it lol wow
95civic1.6l 03-20-2008, 08:13 PM I've been wanting a new one for awhile. I am sick of automatic and driving a sedan. Thats got honda cancer.
addiction2bass 03-21-2008, 01:38 AM id still buy the car back..... the motor you could still get 400bucks from it. another 100-200for the tranny if they are in good condition.....
but if you do get it totaled.... could you remove that small front radiator bracket and sell it to me? with the bolt and bracket ;)
TSR96civic 03-21-2008, 11:16 AM I do believe that some old people are totally legal and capable to drive safely... but ive almost been hit nearly every single time i am in town and its always the elderly in their damn buicks. COME ON PEOPLE loud red shiny thing you should probably try to dodge???
capn_midnight 03-21-2008, 06:51 PM Dude, that sucks.
As for repair costs, I'd guess somewheres in the $1500 range.
Peg_Leg 03-21-2008, 07:09 PM well i just had a good one went down my road to a 4 lane divided road and what do i see an old man going the wrong damn way. i get way ahead of him and started flashing the on coming traffic so he wouldn't hit someone head on
ic892003 03-21-2008, 07:21 PM ouchhhhhhhhhh, could have been worse, in my opinion if its still running its not totaled, but it wont be cheap to repair that hit
Masonn 03-21-2008, 07:47 PM It's usually on and off with old people. My grandpa is 76 and he was a truck driver back in the day. He's had his truck driving lisence til he was 75, then they pulled it because he had to take an eye exam, which he didnt feel like taking. He can still drive busses, ambulances, etc. He has excellent reflexes for an old guy, and he has very good eye sight (and some road rage). On the other hand, I wouldn't let my grandma drive anywhere. She has a very very slow reaction time and doesn't know where shes going. She does half the speed limit, and gets scared really easily. This is why my grandpa drives everywhere. I really don't like old people drivers, but some can be excellent.
95civic1.6l 04-12-2008, 11:01 PM Got my civic back it looks awesome. I got some fog lights to install. a type r front lip and some jdm tail lights. Ill post pictures of it morrow. Just waiting for the lip and tail lights. I gotta work the bugs out with the fog lights.
addiction2bass 04-13-2008, 05:13 AM shoot man i would have gave those parts to the body shop.... why not if its not on your dime ;)
but i guess thats to late now.LOL
at least ya got it all fixed. good to hear.
civicn00b 04-13-2008, 05:52 AM Even though old people suck at driving what really annoys me is that they drive big cars too, like grand marquis and crown victorias. It would make sense that they drive semthing smaller, like a geo for example.
Grats on getting your car back btw!
addiction2bass 04-13-2008, 06:17 AM dam dude you dont think to smart do you??????
think about it... they are older have more medical problems and get hurt alot easier... driving a larger vehicle is the better choice of a car for them! my dad drives his suburban almost all the time.. my moms got enough problems and so does he with his hands and back.
plus larger cars usualy ride smoother as well.
driving a larger car makes more sense... they dont crumple as much as a small car... think about it... how many accidents you seen where a larger vehicle had to be cut out... and look at all the small car wreckswhen if its to bad people have to be cutout ALOT of the time. and when your that old and need medical help... thats an hour or more of time you dont want to be traped in your car or even being stuck in a buring car.
its the smarter choice.
driving a geo.... u kidding me... you seen how small those dam things are? hell my grandmas casket was larger than those things.LOL

That also means that if they were to crash into you or me our cars would be compltely totaled as well, I have almost been hit by a few big cars driven by old people, and its harder to avoid a big car than a small one. But i guess you think you are so smart so no point in arguing really. All I know is that a smaller car is easier to drive than a big one, and it would be EASIER for old people to drive a smaller car compared to a bigger one which requires better attention, you really don't need to be smart to figure that out. As far as the geo goes I was being sarcastic, you could drive a Focus or even a Civic, they are comfortable.
KarTuneMan 04-13-2008, 11:34 AM Ahhhh the old folks. I don't drive with my mother, and worry like the dickins when she's gone. I have allways thought, why not have a person of a certain age need to take the driving test evey other, or EVERY year after reaching a certain age. I would think every insurance company in the world would endorce this!
addiction2bass 04-13-2008, 11:48 AM well none the less. no way i would drive a small car if get older.....
just because your older doesnt mean your a bad driver... hell look at all the stupid young kids that drive there small cars like idiots.
MOST the time the larger vehicle doesnt cause the accident.
another reason why my parents like larger vehicles is the visibility.... you see much beter in a taller vehicle!
i myself feel safer in a larger vehicle i just cannt afford gas to drive it daily.
but what ever. you have your opinion and i have mine....
if i could afford gas id still be driving my fullsize extended cab chevy truck! but 75bucks a week just go to work cost to much on a budget so i sold it and now have a regular cab truck for when i need to haul stuff around.
civicn00b 04-13-2008, 11:59 AM Yea no doubt big cars are safer, I actually always wanted an SUV but like you said gas is too pricey now days, but i also like how the civic looks and drives too.
inthezoneac 04-13-2008, 12:40 PM I think every accident or near accident I've been in involved a van or large truck/suv. Yes there are stupid kids driving, but not all are that way. When you get old there's not much you can do if you have problems, it will only get worse, not better. So I would say old people with problems driving is worse than young stupid teens/adults driving. Those idiot kids can always learn.
95civic1.6l 05-13-2008, 05:46 AM I bought some jdm tail lights. I got tokico hp and megan racing lower control arms on there way to my house. Might be looking at getting some rims soon. My birthday is today so i figured i would buy myself some presents. I also am going to be getting a new bumper.

sde780 05-13-2008, 06:27 AM Nice, you get a new paint job too? that paint looks really shiny...
Here's a pic of my car's recent accident, my mom can't drive worth ****
She got hit by a 4runner, that ran away and she didn't think to call the police or take down the liscense number real quick
