If you take care of it then any car can last a looooong time.

ORIGINAL: Mr Mobsta Man If you take care of it then any car can last a looooong time. +1. But I've owned 5 cars now, and two have been domestics and three have been imports. My domestics have been the only ones that have left me stranded, and was not able to drive home with. I said that last part because I owned a 1985 toyota celica and it overheated. I let it cool down, got some coolant and drove it home. My civic NEVER left me stranded, never broke down, never hesitated to start even in -50* weather. But alas, I sold it. My tacoma however, has never had a problem yet. I had it inspected by a toyota dealer and they couldn't find a single problem with it. I bought it because I needed a truck, and they have an awsome track record for reliability. So far, I think imports are more reliable. On a side note, my mom bought a 2005 sunfire in 05, and it has 30k miles on it right now. We havent had a single problem, nothing with warranty, powertrain, and only got a flat tire... once. I see it's reliability going down hill after 60k though.

My dad's '91 F-150 had over 400,000 miles when the frame finally fell in half from rust. He sold it for like $400 and the guy that bought it welded a piece of iron to the frame and still drives it. My civic has about 230,000 miles and it still runs like a clock. I think its just how you take care of it. The only things I have ever seen make a car undriveable are the driver's fault.

We had a Ford station wagon that lasted more than 10 years without a problem. Then my mom got rid of it because she wanted a van, and went for a Toyota Sienna, and its running great too. My grandparents swear by domestics; my grandpa always drove a Ford F250 Diesel, and my grandma has alwasy driven caddies as far as I can remember. Its kinda funny because people always talk about domestics and how common lemons are, but nobody I've ever known has had a bad one. I chalk it up to responsible driving and good maintenance routines. Before my honda, I drove a Tacoma, which runs great, and so far two people have learned how to drive on it. Before that we had a toyota pickup (before they had names), which had over 400k miles on it.
