Default Question on 04 Civic SI exhaust

Hello,
I have an '04 honda Civic si hatchback and i have just installed a new muffler from greddy. I was wondering about replacing exhaust tube from the cat all the way back to the new muffler, which would eliminate the resignator (i believe thats what its called). An older friend of mine told me it was pretty much another muffler.

I have read alot of the exhaust forums and I have a couple questions about this.

First -whether or not its a good idea?
Second - what size should i use or type?
Third- what are the benifits of doing this?

Any other ideas or information is greatly appreciated. THank you
