well, the clutch was slipping a bit on the track...well, slipping alot, so we ordered a new clutch...but as long as you drove normally, it was fine...it would slip a bit in 4th and 5th if you tried getting greedy...

the gearbox, on the other hand...we were driving back from indianapolis and my dad was driving, and as we came off the interstate, he eased out, and some kid in a focus or something came up along side, so he got into it, and power shifted into 2nd..and there was just a whole lot of rpms, and no moving...he tried to get it back out of "2nd" and it just crunched...we drifted to a stop, and while we were waiting for his buddy to come tow us to the shop, he was trying to find any gear...the clutch felt normal, and when you put it into gear, and let the clutch out, everything seemed fine, until it would grind and grind and grind...and the car wouldnt move. so he put the car on the lift, and pulled the tranny, figuring it was the clutch, and while the clutch was worn, it wasnt that, so they checked the trans lube, and it had chunks of metal in it...so he had to buy a enw gearbox. he was going to try to rebuild the one we have..but when they are assembled, they are pressed together, and the outer edge is then heated and tapered in..so you literally cant get it apart without breaking the gearbox case....they managed to get it a bit open to see some damage, but even with a frame puller, they couldnt ease it open. so he called someplace in cali that has new gearboxes, and they shipped out a new getrag gearbox...we thought about putting a ZF in, because they are substantially cheaper, but someone told me that the ZF gearing is different, and it may not feel as "peppy", so we went with another getrag. the shifter and new clutch went in with the new gearbox, and its like a whole different car. as parts on the bimmer have gone, it was a grand well spent.

I never power shift. When I race I either drop the clutch or quickly slip it

What that post supposed to make sense? Like I said, if you can't tell the difference between a regular 3 series and an M3, do everyone a favor and stop visiting car sites.
