Driving along at 30MPH (the limit) minding my own business on my way to work, wen this BMW (M3 I think) came tearing at me. Must have been late or just plane stupid. Anyway we are comin up 2 a bend and he waits behind me, at this point i knew what was goin to happen next, now remeber this is a Very NARROW road, no room for mistakes as it is a housing area there are walls all over the place. We get around the corner and he goes to over take me, am fed up of people in big "oh look at me i have a BMW and u have little civic" trying to over take wen am driving at the speed limit, so i slame me baby into 2nd gear and floor it, the guy in the BMW looks amazed at the fact tht i was pulling away from him, at this point we are coming up to another bend, so he trys his hardest and eventually i hear the turbo screming for mecry, he and gets past at 70 MPH, now, i know tht 2 wrongs dnt make a right, but it felt good 2 show this idiot tht he doesnt own the road and he will course a accident. Needless to say he slowed down after tht and he still seemed to be in shock 1 mile after the event.
Does anyone else hate these sort of ppl or is just me.

So let me get this strait. A bmw tried to pass you, so just because he was speeding and his car is more expensive you decide to be a jackass and not let him pass to "teach him a lesson" while participating in an illegal and dangerous street race?
Dan
04-29-2005, 08:35 AM
Well, erm, yeah i guess so.:( Thing was he was been a jackass. weaving behind me as if he were keeping his tyres warm. But wot made it worse was, oh look at me am 20 year old, am forigen and i can afford a nice BMW off goverment grants (Trying not to sound racist there, dont have a problem with people coming to this country to make a living, got a problem with the ones who come over for the free money.)

Yeah, i usually do, but there was just something tht really ticked me off, dont know wot it was, maybe because it was 6:30am and i was still tired. It was a really strange feeling tho, i have neva done it before and usually i remain quite calm though out driving, especially having a 2 year old son. My driving style is usually quite modest.:(

M3s arent turbo charged...and if his was, it wouldnt have been any contest...he would have gone around you effortlessly, regardless of what gear you were in...

You will seldom see a BMW with FI due to the fact that out of the factory, they are running nearly a 12:1 CR. Thus, in order to add a SC or TC, you have to build and tune the engine absolutely flawlessly, or lower the CR.

12:1 CR would be decent for a SC however not a TC

how do you figure civtegra? the higher the compression the lower boost you can "Safely" run...either blown or turbo...

Truest words posted yet.
If he had an M3 (although if you can't tell, you have no business in a car forum) he would have walked past you without even realizing you were trying to be a jackass and speed up.

Ok Explain how youwould Tell if the M3 Was an M3? Even if It was an M3 and Not Some twat in a 316 or sumat, He'd still be a twat in an M3 and M3's are nt that fast at all it might be a 3.2 Straight 6cyl but it always depends on how its driven. I would of thought thta you guys wuda known that...

Was it an E46 or an E36?
Patrick
06-06-2005, 07:59 PM
an E36 is 5 Series sedan...at least my 92 5 series is.
jake11375
06-07-2005, 10:09 AM
E36 is all the 3 series (coupes and sedans) from 1991-1999 and the E46 represents the M3 from 2001-2006. The rest of the 3 series from 2001-2004 were E46 until 2005 with the E90. In 2007 supposedly the new E90 M3 is "rumored" to be released with at least 400hp. But the reason I was asking is because the old E36 was only pushing about 240hp in the US version (321hp in Europe) and the E46 comes with 333hp. This would clarify more what M3 he is claiming he beat.

A super would be better... after all there are s/c's available for the M3. Check this link out... ouch! The taxes on this kit is enough to give you a nose bleed! http://bavauto.com/shop.asp

theres a silver M3 here that I see at the track occasionaly, and with a custom turbo system, he consistently hits high tens.

There are plenty BMWs with FI and they actually take boost quite well. I know a kid that has a similar car as mine (2.5L I6) with 225k miles. He put on a SC at 200k and is running 8psi of boost on stock high mileage motor and has no problems4. Or how about this M3 http://www.dtmpower.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=110353. Also, I'm sure how well the GE toyota motors take boost even though they have a high compression

E36 are the 91.5-'00 (I think) 3-series. E46 are the newer 3-series and E90 are the newest 3-series that look like crap imo

yep, I must also say that it's a major bang for the buck.. People often don't realize that BMWs aren't that expensive at all. I can't name any car for $2k or less that I would tke over a BMW

he got his from an auction..it needed suspension and exhaust work, and it needs the drivers seat reskinned...but he owns a shop, so the exhaust and suspension didnt cost him anything..it really is a nice smooth car...it far surpassed my expectations. it went over 200k this year...and the head has never been off.

have you had to do any maintenance internally?
andryuha
06-11-2005, 12:46 AM
It was leaking oil a bit, so I had to change the valve cover gasket. Now it barely eats any at all. I changed my oil 2k miles ago, and I haven't lost any oil since. I had to do a lot of suspension work though. I'm talking ball joints, sway bar links, shocks and springs.
Patrick
06-11-2005, 10:07 AM
we didnt get into any bushings, but literally all of the "ride quality" suspension items had to be replaced when we got it. the tranny came apart while racing...so we got a new gearbox and new sacks clutch...and a STS out of one of the magazines my dad gets, from the same place where we got the computer upgrade. ours uses a bit of oil, but nothing worth even taking the engine apart. do you happen to know if your coil packs have been replaced?
andryuha
06-11-2005, 10:41 AM
I don't know, since I have no maintenance records. I did not chande them. how did ur tranny come apart? I'm scared of racing now
Patrick
06-11-2005, 12:06 PM
well, the clutch was slipping a bit on the track...well, slipping alot, so we ordered a new clutch...but as long as you drove normally, it was fine...it would slip a bit in 4th and 5th if you tried getting greedy...
the gearbox, on the other hand...we were driving back from indianapolis and my dad was driving, and as we came off the interstate, he eased out, and some kid in a focus or something came up along side, so he got into it, and power shifted into 2nd..and there was just a whole lot of rpms, and no moving...he tried to get it back out of "2nd" and it just crunched...we drifted to a stop, and while we were waiting for his buddy to come tow us to the shop, he was trying to find any gear...the clutch felt normal, and when you put it into gear, and let the clutch out, everything seemed fine, until it would grind and grind and grind...and the car wouldnt move. so he put the car on the lift, and pulled the tranny, figuring it was the clutch, and while the clutch was worn, it wasnt that, so they checked the trans lube, and it had chunks of metal in it...so he had to buy a enw gearbox. he was going to try to rebuild the one we have..but when they are assembled, they are pressed together, and the outer edge is then heated and tapered in..so you literally cant get it apart without breaking the gearbox case....they managed to get it a bit open to see some damage, but even with a frame puller, they couldnt ease it open. so he called someplace in cali that has new gearboxes, and they shipped out a new getrag gearbox...we thought about putting a ZF in, because they are substantially cheaper, but someone told me that the ZF gearing is different, and it may not feel as "peppy", so we went with another getrag. the shifter and new clutch went in with the new gearbox, and its like a whole different car. as parts on the bimmer have gone, it was a grand well spent.

I never power shift. When I race I either drop the clutch or quickly slip it
Patrick

i also dont ever power shift...at least not very often...the gearbox costs too freakin much to not use the clutch
