so here is the situation.... i'm kinda sick of driving a civic that is my project car as well as my dd. multi-colored... not running exactly right... salvage title.... etc haha

well it turns out a friend of the family just bought a new 4runner and is selling his 96 toyota tacoma v6 4wd. it has 146xxx miles on it but it runs great and he hasnt done anything to it besides basic maintenance and what not. he wants 5k for it but since i dont have that he said i could just pay him off in payments without interest. From what i've heard these trucks are really reliable and great trucks, will last a long time. what do you guys think? i have a job where i'm making 14/hr with overtime for anything over 40 hrs... so i have the money... just wondering what you guys thought of these trucks

There is a recall on toyota tacoma's right now, their frames rust to dust. Make sure it's frame is okay before you buy it. My sister's boyfriend had one and took it in to the dealership to see if it was okay, they hit the frame with a hammer and it basically shattered due to horrible rust so they bought the truck back from him.

well, it turns out that i dont think i'm getting it... my insurance is under my dad still, and he doesnt want me to get it... and i would never be able to afford my own insurance here in nj (my parents live in nc), so i'll just keep beatering around in the civic until i graduate from college and then i'll get something nice

It's not a recall, they extended the warranty. It's due to road salt... lol

Here in SK, we don't use road salt so the problem doesn't exist, it's only in provinces/states where road salt is used. Other than that, they'revery good trucks. I bought mine for many reasons: harsh winters in SK (4wd), toyota reliability, excellent resale value, decent fuel mileage for a truck... to list off some.
