Alright. So this little sophomore punk at school wants to race me with his little Mitsubishi Eclipse with 140 hp 2.0L engine. Problem is.. I don't know if my little D17 could take him >_<. My only mod so far is my AEM v2 intake, so i'd hopefully have 120 hp, still.. I'm 20 hp short. Well, since he is a new driver, and new to stick.. I might be able to take him? His only mods is he has a muffler (LOL) and he thinks it adds SO much horsepower . I think I MIGHT stand a chance against him.. Since my car weights a little more, and he's a new driver and doesn't know much about his car and what rpms to shift at, and probably doesn't know how to launch correctly. I'm pretty good at launching, I don't spin my tires like I use to, but I could still use some more practice to find that "Sweet spot". So i'd say I have my advantages over him, definately.. But it still doesn't mean i'll win for sure, unless he's HORRIBLE at shifting. I figure, if I can get a perfect launch, then I might be able to take him. I might wait until my 17" Toyo Proxes get here along with my rims to race him, so I have stickier tires.

Also, my friend wants to race me just for ****s and giggles. He has a '94 Mustang with 145 hp, 6 cylinder(I'm not sure what year, but I think its a 1994), and his car is an automatic. He's replacing his head gasket now because I think it was cracked or something, and he had some serious horsepower loss, so he should regain his lost horsies and he asked me if I wanted to race for the hell if it, and I said "I'll think about it.", originally he said "Haha, when I get my Mustang fixed, we should race. You're little ricer vs my american car." and when he said that, deep down I knew I had to race him . He's one of those stupid people who doesn't know the difference between tuners and ricers, and thinks anything aftermarket is considered ricey, and I try to explain it to him, and he just doesn't get it.

But, since I live in a small town, we have ALOT of backroads and roads people hardly even drive on, and they are nice and wide. So we'll probably go have some fun down there, and video tape it. He use to have a Ford Escort ZX2 with a muffler on it, and he had about 110 hp, and I had 115. And I BARELY beat him, it was about by half a car length. Then again, my car was completely stock, and thats when I was still rusty with manual and didn't know much about my car, or when to shift and when I launched I always spun my tires a little.

But, what do you guys think? Do you think I have a chance against the Eclipse or Mustang? I honestly don't think my little D17 could take them .

I would say you shouldnt race you are almost certain to lose both races and racing you could lose much more than just your license.

Both cars will own you.

The mustang has higher gear ratios than you, its a low 15.3second 1/4th mile time car, and it has about 215 lb of torque. Your d17 engine's 115hp kicks in during the third gear at abotu 4500 to 5000 rpm. By that time, the mustang is already at the finish line

to be fair about the mustang....  i raced a mid 90's V6 in my 2005 EX 5-speed, and took him by like a little over a car up to 75.... granted, his mullet was probably causing problems, (yes he had a mullet :D) but is there that much of a difference from an EX to an LX... and the V6 is a DOG on the 1994 mustang, i don't know where you got your 15.3 1/4 mile time, but all mustang V6's i've ran into that year or similar were NOT running that time, almost positive :P.

i had to check the time for the mustang, you are right, its a actually low 17s. Even so, I highly doubt a d17a1 engine can take. Having driven it myself the lx engines are garbage

Low 17's.. Mmm.. I think my car was estimated at like high 17's? Or so i've heard from other D17 drivers.. And yeah, the engine does suck, but as far as gas goes, i'm not complaining .

I sure as hell dont mind my injectors sucking down a little extra gas and paying $4 dollars a gallon for 91 pump, you'd be surprised at how little of a consideration gas is when your civic is fast.
