Hello All,
I bought a 2008 Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC and would like to upgrade the stock rims and tyres from 195-65-15" 91H to either 205-45-17" or 215-45-17".The width of the Rim is 8". Would the upgrade have any effect on ABS ? Kindly need some guidance on the upgrade.
Thanks in Advance.

buy 17" rims and go with 205/40/17 tires. Otherwise your speedometer will be off

Wrong.
That will make the speedometer read 6.1% too fast. With that, your speedometer will say 60mph, for example, and you will actually be going 56.3mph.

205/45-17 will make it read 2.9% too fast. (60mph speedo reading=58.3mph real speed)
215/45-17 will make it read 1.4% too fast. (60mph speedo reading=59.1mph real speed)

The 215/45-17 will make your speedometer barely off and I would go with that.

IDK if it fits your rim or not, but 205/50-17 will make your speedometer only off by 0.4% (60mph speedo reading=60.2mph real speed)

hi,
Thanks for all the replies. But will 205-45-17 or 215-45-17 have any effect on the ABS. I have heard that larger wheels will interfere with the way ABS functions !!. Is it true ? what are the effects then ?

Waiting for a favorable reply. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards.

no it wont affect ABS. get lightweight wheels, any close to the original wheel weight or lighter is best.
