im going to get some new speakers for my civic, they are no good. im going with alpine type r all around. my question is when i get the front ones im going to get the tweeters also, do i need the crossovers?? i dont realy know what they are, from what i gather they split the power to the front speaker and tweeter i think?? on ebay you can get them with or without the crossover so im a little confused if i need them, thanks in advance.

i guess ur looking at component speakers. the crossover sends the mids to the speakers and the highs to the tweeters.

Yes, get them with the crossovers.  Your 1" tweeters might have some trouble reproducting bass frequencies, yaknowaddimean?

just get the alpine type r 6.5 component set. (SPR-17S) It comes with a bass and mid woofer that will go in the door panel, a tweeter that will go inside the mirror, and the crossover that you will have to mount somewhere on the door behind the door panel. the component set are the best way to go with tweeters cuz they are designed to work with each other and maintain the correct ohm loads and power handling.

Agreed.  I put the SPR-17S in my '02 Coupe, and had to add spacers.  As a tip, put your windows down BEFORE installing the speakers to ensure you have enough clearance in the back.

yeah if i got clearence issues i will use spacers, the stock speakers have a depth of 1.8" and the type r's are 2.56" so i will do something, i was hoping i would be able to space them out like a half inch and then they might be fine, we will see i guess. thanks for the info guys
