Last night, going 75 on the freeway from San Diego up north to my hometown about 50 miles away, I heard a loud destructive noise coming from my engine bay. At first i thought all of my rods were thrown out of my block until i heard a large metal mass scraping the road and a large increase in exhaust noises. Pulled over onto the shoulder, jacked my car up with the honda tire changing jack to find that my exhaust weld at the resonator had snapped and my exhaust was broken in two. Luckily i had an old braided oil line and a metal clotheshanger, so i was able to tie the exhaust to my shift linkage. I went very easy on the drive home, afraid that the temporary fix would not last very long. When I arrived at home i immediately went over to my friends house. We collectively decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to see what my car could do with an open exhaust. My motor is rebuilt, running 14lbs on a small t3, but leaking 4-5 under full boost due to missing gaskets in my turbo kit. We drove up and down the local highway looking for something fast. About 15 minutes later we pulled up to a red next to a camaro ss with two people in it. I revved my engine and looked for a response, but all i got was the usual face of an uninterested domestic driver looking at an import with disgust. I decided to punch it anyways. ****ty launch out of first as I started at 2k rpms on a motor with 7.8:1 compression. His v8 screamed next to me as he gained 3 car lengths. Boost hit in first, but only long enough to pull from 4k-7k in what felt like a second. As I ripped into second, I felt my tires screech hard as I immediately hit boost and closed his lead to 1 car length. Topped out at 7k and shifted into third where neither of our positions changed until 90mph when we both began to decelerate. They were pretty surprised to find that a 1.6 liter single-cam was able to keep up with their car, all thanks to an accidental open exhaust. I think when i get it welded back up, i'll have the muffler shop replace the length of piping and the cat with a test pipe, as suggested by my tuner days before.

Sounds good, glad you got your car fast enough for most muscle cars

Yeah, its a big change from about 115whp. Now the challenge is to get the power to the ground, anything over 14psi is smoking tires. Had the cat removed, next i'm goin for full suspension, and motor mounts.

get traction control bars, on ebay there $200, etd traction control bars ... that will stop the wheel hop, motor mounts will help a ton, also try a nrg engine damper, its like 80 bucks and i noticed it... also a full suspension is a must. and if you feel like tearing into your tranny go with a obx lsd, 2 tires spinning is wayyyy better than one do all that and you will actually be able to hold your own off the line as well, on 14lbs of boost you should be pulling on stock ss comaros... one question, is this setup tuned? and if so what kind of numbers are you getting?

Tuned on a dynapack. Dont know what i'm making now. They set my boost to 7lbs after i was leaking at the attempted 15lbs so the numbers i got were 150/150. Tuned when i had the cat. Dumptube welded on now, which was costing me 8-10lbs of torque from sucking in wastegate dump into the turbo. yeah traction bars are last on my list, after spending 6-7k I kinda have to choose my battles. Figure i'm making about 215-220whp even with the leak.
