Well hang on a second.
How long ago did you purchase these wheels?
If it wasn't too long then you can go back to that mechanic who was stupid enough to give you this advise and see what they can do.
It might be nothing, but it is certainly worth a shot.
Now, that is if it wasn't too long ago.
And just for the furture, do your reseach before you buy anything basically
Get people's opinions, search the web, maybe even read through a magazine or book.

it has been less than a week ago since i had them install the wheels. ya, i thought asking someone that works at the shop (the mechanic) would be more than enough research. i'll do some further research from now on. so would you guys agree that an offset of +40 would be fine to avoid any type of rubbing? (including passengers and turns)

can you get a picture of the rubbing area?
it could be as minor as you just need to roll your fender lip....

either way i would take those wheels off ASAP and put the stockers back on till you get the fender lips rolled! because if you rub to much and it cuts right thru the sidewall of the tire they will not warente that tire failure!!!!

i just found out that my offset is actually 40, so its not totally based on the offset. i guess i'm gonna have to roll the lip then if this is really the only way. i really didnt want make room for the wheels; i wanted the wheels to fit the car. i dont think the rubbing is that bad. there is a rubber molding covering the lip, so it doesnt hurt the tires too bad.

no it will cut thru! its only a matter of time!!!!!
your only slightly bending that inner lip UP into the fender so there is mainly no sharp edges... roll the fender lips and you SHOULD be golden...
but again how much are you lowered? i think 42-45mm offset is best for some 7inch wide wheels...
thats what gets you introuble! the width of the rim and tire.... you might be able to get by with some thinner tires BUT that would most likely look funny and not have any protection from curbing... what little you have.LOL

either spend ruffly 250bucks on a new fender roller tool off ebay, use it and slap it back up for sale... or buy a used one. they are always on ebay!!!!!!
just make sure its not that RENTAL CRAP!!!!!! the tool only costs like 250bucks brand new and some people want the 90bucks for the rental fee and also a 300dollar deposit... sounds to me like a huge rip off! so you got like almost 400bucks gone for a few weeks.... which sounds really stupid to me... might as well just buy the tool brand new and only have like 250bucks gone for ashort while... use it and when your done with it you can put it right back up on ebay.... and get probably around 225bucks from it.... estimated of course...
i wish i kept my fender roller tho... very easy tool...

just take your time doing it......

or just call around some tuner shops in your area and see if they have the fender roller tool and how much they would charge to roll your rear fender lips in....
you dont have to roll the fender lip flat.... just enough so the tire will not grab onto the sharp edge...
as you can see from my thread about when i rolled mine i didnt roll them up that much. mine seemed to be angled downward as you can see from this picture....

i believe those wheels where 40mm offset.
wish i kept them rims as well... main reason i sold them was because i tried them on my car and they rubbed in the rear and front.....
i got them for a steal! only 75bucks for all 4 with decent tires.....
i sanded and painted them black and they looked nice... i think i got like 250outta them.

my wheels now are 42offset.
sorry no close up pictures.... and now im back on stock suspension so it wouldnt be a very good picture comparison.LOL
