My wifes civic blew a head gasket this weekend, so the shop says. Im sure there are more problems then that. It has over 200,000 miles on it. I think I would be better off getting a used engine versus having to shell out cash for fixing this one.

Where can I grab an engine under 1000$ and what are my choices? Im in the SF Bay area.

Thanks

go with a d16z6. thats what the 95 civic ex comes with anyways so you should be good. i would try a local junk yard. around where i live there like 500 with around 120,000 miles. tested and everything

Another question just in case. How much do you think this ride is worth just parting it out or selling complete as is with blown gasket? Never been in accident - paint is so-so/keyed

do you need the money right now?  If you don't need the money and can sit on the car for a while, parting it out is the way to go... I mean, you can get $150 or so for the seats alone.  I doubt you'd get much for it with a blown head gasket (you're looking triple digits; I don't really think anybody would pay $1k for it).

*edit: also, check craigslist... there's tons of d16z6's floating around with around 100k miles, and they don't cost much ($3-500 for the block)

ya parting out will get ya more money TYPICALY... but takes ALOT LONGER to sell....

BUT you can get a easy 2-300 bucks with just a few parts... one cluster 75bucks, seats 100bucks, the Z6 head off the motor 100-150bucks, computer 80bucks. motor wiring harness for Vtec 50-80bucks.
catalatic converter 50-100bucks maybe more.

those are typicaly the easist to sell...
but ya might be able to get 600bucks outa the car AS-IS..... BUT depending on the cost to have the motor fixed..... well its your choice.

one thing ive learned is sometimes its best to keep the car you have and fix it, than buy another car and have hidden suprises pop up.
