my cig lighter in my 94LX is only on when the key is on. I like to keep my phone charging in the car while i'm not in it sometime.. is there a way to wire it to be active when the key is off?
well its not like it would suck power all the time.. only when something is plugged into it to complete the circuit. my truck's cig lighter is like that.
So I'd just need to run a new wire form the fuse box, thats hot all the time?
do you live in your car or something? cause this kinda seems unnesassary and bad idea. Leaving your cell phone in plane view for some jerk to steal isnt really a good idea.

Even if I don't leave it in the car for long periods of time while I'm not there, it still would be nice to have the charger on all the time. If I'm turning the car off and on every few minutes, its not good on the phone battery to cycle like that. And no, I don't live in my car, thanks.
i ahve this in my toher car, i was actually surprised to learn the civic is not the same... it's a PITA for me too, i like to plug in my phone and throw it in the glovebox to charge when i run in to a store or aomething, doesn't do me any good in my pocket if it's dead... basically you just have to re wire it to a constant power source, and unless you have a high drain device and/or leave it plugged in for like 2 days, it wont drain your battery. I just did a custom install of 115v plugs in my car beside the cig lighters, they're powered all the time, i have a switch to cut the power, i should take pics, it's very clean, IMO, just put the inverter under the cup hoplders, there's a nice spot in there for it.

BUT anyways you cannt just run a hot wire to the stock one... you need to put a INLINE FUSE from a few inches from the powers source to keep it safe! as long as you fuse it it will work great and trouble free if a problem happens where that new wire shorts out on something or what ever you have pluged into it shorts out...

i cannt find pictures of what im talking about BUT if you go to autozone or maybe walmart even.. go to the electrical stuff and find a CIG LIGHTER PLUG..... good ones have a small hinged lid on the front to cover the cig opening...
you can either use some screws to secure it under the dash OR just tuck it up under the dash to hide it and just zip tie it to some other wires or a brace..... that way you keep it hidden.

Don't pretty much all car adaptors that plug into a cig lighter have an inline fuse already? Do you need another one?
