Also i started a thread in the exhaust section about this. take a look at it, not alot of people on to reply!!
inthezoneac 05-02-2008, 06:42 PM stay away from generic exhausts. Go on youtube and look for greddy sp2 civic, magnaflow civic, flowmaster civic, I'm sure you'll like the sounds of those.
enigma34 05-02-2008, 06:45 PM Ya i was reading about exhaust on this forum, and the ebay ones will get raspy, and i like raspy.
Does anyont know if this will fit?

i dont like this sound, its not loud enuff, and not raspy. 2006 Civic Si Greddy sp2 exhaust (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9178911957512944810&q=greddy+sp2+c ivic&ei=6cUbSJL0EIeorwK5_ZSzAg&hl=en)
i like this sound. 1997 Honda Civic HX Catback Exhaust (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6492291888345134274&q=civic+ebay+exhaust&ei=GccbSO TJO6S-rALK053QAg&hl=en)
inthezoneac 05-02-2008, 06:54 PM You like raspy? Just cut a hole in your stock muffler and put on a tip if you want that noise.
btw that exhaust isn't ebay brand. There is no ebay brand. You can find much better, brand name exhausts on ebay for lower price than other sites or local areas.
enigma34 05-02-2008, 07:03 PM I know there isint an ebay brand. Can you find an axel back exhaust that will fit on HX civic thats under $150, and has that raspy loud sound?
enigma34 05-02-2008, 07:07 PM the seller say's it will work with civic hx model, can anyone confirm this?

Do you know if it will fit on HX?
crap, you mean raspy?
trustdestruction 05-02-2008, 07:23 PM i think the axle back will work on any model
and by crap, i mean loud (even louder if you take off the silencer), annoying, raspy (even raspier if you leave the silencer on), and worst of all, is extremely ricey. I wouldn't recommend a coffee can for a muffler.
You should check out the GReddy SP2, or EVO2; the apex-i WS2; or the rs*r exmag
inthezoneac 05-02-2008, 07:47 PM anyone know of those generic exhausts rust easily too? I would imagine they do.
Big EZ 05-03-2008, 12:55 AM i got one of those ebay cat back systems and i hate it. wish i would have spent the money for a better one. if its not raining tomorrow i will try to get a video of how horrible it sounds. its suppost to be an N1 style cat back system. i would like to find one that sounds like the civic race car they have on the honda commercial. as for fitment, all you can do is trust the seller and if it doesnt fit then you have to take it up with them, but from my understaning all civic 2/3dr exhausts from 92-00 will work and civic 2/4dr from 92-00 will work. i could be wrong but thats the the idea i got
yes the generic exhausts rust quick. mine is suppost to be stainless steel and i put it on 2 months ago and there is already surface rust at the welds. guess thats what you get for a $180 cat back system. live and learn.
I think the HX and the EX have similar exhaust layout. I still run my original exhaust on my 97 Civic. If I were you, I would get a brand that you want and take it to a muffler shop and have it done right. I have a 65 Chevelle, the muffler shop did a great job madrelling and installing the exhaust. I see too many cheap exhaust that just hangs off back end of cars that just bounces around and look dumb. It will cost more but I think its well worth it.

Yea if i could do it all over again i would have just bought the apex-i WS2 muffler and taken it to an exhaust shop for custom piping. Then I wouldn't scrape so often in the middle of the piping.
And actually it shouldn't cost more than buying a catback and installing it yourself, it should cost less.
enigma34 05-03-2008, 10:32 AM I would just get a muffler, because im going for sound, but i need to put the stock one back on for when i have to go to emissions.

yes i would love to here it!! whats bad about it?
Big EZ 05-03-2008, 01:30 PM this is the piece of s**t ebay exhaust i was talking about. the second clip didnt do what i hoped because of the wind noise, but you get the point. as for whats bad about it, it sounds like crap.

oh and that crap is with the silencer in. it sounds even worse without it.
enigma34 05-03-2008, 02:27 PM Does Your muffler have anything to do with passing emissions? If not ill just buy a muffler and bring it to a shop and get it welded on.If it does it would be best to buy an axle back and swap it for stock when the time comes for emissions?
Big EZ 05-03-2008, 03:01 PM other than the fact that it has to be there, no it has nothing to do with it. all the muffler does is baffle the sound to quiet the exhaust a little. your catalytic converter and o2 sensors have more to do with the emissions.
enigma34 05-03-2008, 04:07 PM You think it would be cheaper to buy an axle back, or just a muffler and have a shop weld it on?
Big EZ 05-03-2008, 05:24 PM personally i would still do a header back exhaust. if i were to do it again i would spend the extra money on a good exhaust.

I like the sound of your car. i like raspy. You got it off ebay? what is it calld, is it an axle back or just muffler?
Big EZ 05-03-2008, 10:28 PM can not find the exact one, but it was a header+catback system. 2.5" piping with a 4" tip. it was an N1 style cat back. then i got some crap "high flo cat/ testpipe" that was something like $35 shipped. the header and catback was $185 shipped. i was on ebay looking for it and found a couple setups that should be a little better, and are relatively cheap.
this is the one i bought, but when i bought it it was listed as 96-00 setup. thats not to say they wont list another.

here are a couple others that either might strike your interest and or may be better exhausts.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-96-00-Civic-Stainless-Header-Catback-EX-DX-LX-EK-3_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33630QQihZ025QQitemZ3 80023309686QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

if i redo mine i think i will go with this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Megan-Header-CAT-Cat-Back-Exhaust-Civic-96-97-98-00-HB_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33630QQihZ011QQitemZ 320246677832QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
and lastly here is what that megan one sounds like. now this is a good sounding civic.

sorry, i got link happy. but the more i think about it the more i want to buy it.
trustdestruction 05-03-2008, 11:08 PM rule #1 of cat-back exhausts and headers: if it's on eBay, and doesn't have an actual brand name, it is garbage
Those headers (except the megan one) will most likely crack.
Those test pipes will rust.
you are really going to regret buying any of those in about 6 months to a year, they sound like garbage, with maybe the exception of the megan one... but, if you're going to spend that ~$500 much money on that megan exhaust, you should really check into other systems. If you want it to be like that and loud, you should check out a real apex-i N1, it will be around the same price if not less. Another pretty good kinda loud sounding exhaust i would recommend looking into is the GReddy EVO2. And also, check out some Magnaflow exhausts, and skunk2.
Apex-i N1 (http://www.procivic.com/pages-product_car_part_info/category-70_86/product-243/index.html)
Magnaflow (http://www.procivic.com/pages-product_car_part_info/category-70_86/product-826/index.html)
skunk2 mega power (http://www.procivic.com/pages-product_car_part_info/category-70_86/product-319/index.html)
i couldn't find an EVO2 exhaust and didn't feel like looking anymore.
Big EZ 05-04-2008, 01:11 AM im not so much into the exhaust being loud like most of those are. im looking for a deeper sound. im more into muscle than rice, but i've got both, and i really like that deep sound. that exhaust just seems to have the right pitch and deep tone to it for me. sure i can look around to see if i can find it cheaper, and i probably will, but that megan exhaust just seems right.
