So i bought this http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8869_--+CLOSEOUT--+--+Kenwood+eXcelon+KDC-X591.html
I filld out that car info, for the FREE Installation Mounting Kit and Wiring Harness . Becuase i have keyless entry, kenwood makes a special harness for the keyless entry and it will cost me $33! I said no, just send what i orderd... So who knows what im geting when it gets here!!!
I think i read somewhere, to keep my keyless entry i need the stock radio. or is this for the alarm? I ALSO HAVE THE HONDA ALARM.
sO IM HOPEING YOU GUY'S CAN HELP ME. aLL I KNOW IS IM GETING THAT HAED UNIT, AND I DONT KNOW IF IM GETING A HARNESS.
i FEEL SICK.....bUT THE GIRL FROM SONIC ELECTRONIX,THAT CALLD ME SOUNDED HOT!LOL

I believe honda stopped using the radio for the keyless entry after the 98 or 99 models.
So if you do take out the stock radio completely, yes you will lose your keyless entry. (By the way this has already been discussed, use the search next time)
SO basically, you need the stock radio in your car to keep keyless entry. Most people, from what I ahve heard, just tuck it down under the glove box or back behind the aftermarket radio so they can keep their Keyless. You only need to run power wires to it so that your trasmitter/receiver for the keyless will still be there for ya.

I ordered a replacement head unit from Crutchfield, and I said that I didn't have keyless because I am ripping the factory radio out and tossing it due to all the nightmares it has caused!
One thing you can do is see if they make a master harness for your particular head unit. They are more expensive, but are plug-n-play! Circuit City and a few other places sell them.
ETA: Something like this: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra-1986-98-Honda-Acura-Vehicle-Wiring-Harness-801720/sem/rpsm/oid/41011/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
ETA2: You would also need this if you went the master harness route: http://www.audio-discounters.com/kn16-0001.html
Personally, I only used one ONCE and it ended up being a buttload of wire to have to hide behind the dash in a 90s Dodge Dakota. The only reason I went with it was due to the fact that it was the only thing I could find on a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for the city link, i learn that
Two wiring harnesses are required to complete the installation-the vehicle wiring harness and the radio wiring harness. Make sure you have both before you start the installation.
So do i need to buy two? well i know know that i should of said yes to the $33, because now im spending alot more wtf!
so, i gess ill just see what they send me, it says it will be here on the 13th.....

If you want to go the master harness route you usually need two! Every now and again you can run across a master harness that has your vehicle plug on one end and a direct plug for your aftermarket radio on the other end.
You can go the one harness route, but you will need to solder and heatshrink the wires to the aftermarket radio yourself.
Alternative 3 (which I do NOT recommend) is that you can cut the factory plug and wire directly to your aftermarket radio. The reason I do not recommend this is because it is a royal pain to work in certain dashboards after you clip the factory harness and if you ever have to change your radio again it really sucks.

I don't see the master harness available in that link you provided. Since you don't have access to a solder gun, your next best bet is to get a cheap crimp set and use butt connectors to join your wires together, then consider using electrical tape over the individual connections. Personally, I hate going that route because it seems that one crimp connector will always fail over time, and it is usually the one that causes the most problems (i.e. remote turnon shorts out or every light blows in the dashboard). I used to "fix" professional installs that used crimp connections and failed before I started my career.
As for the Tape Deck, I am planning on leaving mine in there because I thought I had a spare din pocket laying around, and come to find out I think I tossed the dang thing. Also, my cupholder lid is broken and won't close, so I don't really see much of the tape deck. Lastly, I am planning on either routing my iPod cable to the glove box or console to keep it out of sight. But in your case, if you can find a local shop that will sell you a din pocket, you can drill a place for the iPod wire to run through and put some anti slip mat in there to keep it (your iPod) in place.

Oh the bliss and excitment of purchasing electronics on line to save a dollar.
Saving a dollar can be done, as long as the hidden costs are factored in! In my Mustang, I replaced the speakers and head unit for 50% of what a local shop would have charged! As for my Civic, I am going to save about $150 by installing my alarm myself plus I saved another $100 by ordering my radio versus purchasing it locally. Sure, it takes my time to do it, but I am going to be arrogant and say at least I know it was done because I did it! The last time I was lazy and paid for a professional install, it cost me roughly $500 to replace an electrical component that they fried. I was eventually reimbursed for it by the vendor, but I was so pissed that I had to pay first and threaten to sue to get reimbursed!

that one is for retaining your stock stereo, on end will plug in to the wire harness in your car the other end will plug in to your stock deck, then you use the loose wires to wire to your aftermarket deck... it's not plug n play, but it will retain your keyless entry n stuff.
it's likely that this is what sonix was trying to sell you.

Im thinking of going out and buying a crimp set. But if i buy a harness for my stock stuff, does my haed unit come with a harness or do i have to buy one for it? And if i have to buy one for it, what will work?
I dont want to retain my keyless and alarm. Will i get a check engine light for not using a harness that retains them? I just want a harness to plug into the stock plug and a harness for the new unit, then ill just crimp color to color, and im good to go..
I aslo orderd an amp and sub, it comes with the wier ket. but im not shore what i have to connect to the head unit, i know i have to hook up one wire to the battery, then on the other side of the car, i lead the other wire to the head unit. Is it easy to hook up?

You will lose your domelight when you pull the factory deck out! From the green plugin harness on the back of your factory radio, find the light green wire w/ black stripe and the light green wire w/ red stripe. You are going to have to connect these together for your domelight to work.

Yeah, you have to remove the whole friggin console to get the tape deck out! After the console is out, there should be 4 bolts (two on each side) holding the tape deck in.
ETA: Crimps done properly will work just fine for installing your radio. I prefer solder because it works better on boats whereas crimp on connectors just corrode and break when exposed to the elements and salt water.

then you could try to man handle it out after poping the rear side panels loose and fold the seat down but its a PITA! but its definatly alot easier if you remove the rear seat, the side panels and i cannt remember if the top side panels need to come off as well... cannt remember then the rear deck trim can come off and you can see your speakers... i would recomend either replace them with some nice speakers that way you shouldnt have to go thru all that again to swap them out. BUT if you do kinda cheap it out then i would say mount them from the bottom of the rear deck so next time you can just remove them from inside the trunk.

o alarms are not that hard to instal.LOL
takes time but a good wiring diagram can take off hours of work!
but then again ive instaled quite a few alarms so i kinda got it down.....
It is not hard, just takes me a long time because of my being anal about soldering all my connections and putting the brain in the hardest to get to place....
addiction2bass
05-10-2008, 06:11 PM
ya that looks like the proper way to swap the speakers out
and ya.. that takes alot more time all that soldering and such........
IMO its not worth securing my alarms all hidden at least for me..... hell FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE is my most security system, plus if anyone wants my car bad enough they will get it...
my alarm is mainly for keyless entry and remote start... and alittle deterant for the ammature smash and grabers... only thing i would like to get for my alarm system now is auto trunk poper, and a tilt sensor to protect my wheels alittle. not to concerned about it really. my main security is its parked in the garage at nights.

I got the rear speakers out! it wasint that hard, only about an hour to take evrything out.
Know the only thing i need to find out is, how to run that amp cable to the battery. I think the hole is on the driver side, i havint mess with it but it looks to be realy tuff to rip it open:(!!But i dont want to wreck anything...
addiction2bass
05-11-2008, 04:39 PM
ya dont rip it.LOL just use a small razor blade to make a slit in the open part of it and push the wire thru. you dont want a huge hole...
also IMO it looks better if you pull the battery, and battery tray and use the wire gromet that goes kinda straight down to get the wire inside the car... it keeps the engine bay looking nice a clean! alittle more work BUT IMO WELL WORTH IT!!!! plus you save ruffly 4ft of wire if you ran it to the drivers side and then back.. ;)

lol. i realy dont understand what your saying or how to do it, and what a gromet is? But ill lo0k around.
addiction2bass
05-11-2008, 05:54 PM
a gromet is a soft rubber piece that is on the firewall of the car... the one on the drivers side i think it has a unused gromet. others have wires that go thru the center of the rubber gromet. you can simply make a small slit in the gromet to the side of the wires ruffly 1/2inch or so away from the wires just to ensure you dont cut any wires. just make a small slit in the rubber and force the new power wire thru it so its kinda tight fit. otherwise if ya cut to much or just want to be sure its water tight you need to use some kinda silicone or sealer to make it water tight...

One is blue and white, with a strip of tape on it that say's (P.CONT)
The other one is brown, with a strip of tape saying( MUTE).
Im, not shore about the dome light, i may just not hook it up..

That Blue/White wire is your power control wire and you need to connect it to the remote turn on input on your power amplifier.

the blue wire you have to run the whole wire to the trunk where your amplifier is....
some RCA cables have a built in remote wire between them but not all of them... if they dont then just buy some wire thats long enough to run from the deck to the trunk.... but if you bought a amplifier instal kit then it should have came with enough blue wire to run it then.....

My friend told me aneasy way torun my amp cable to the battery.but....Its on the passenger side, i can run itup thedoor frame, and under the side of the hood. it will be like out side, the car. is it ok to run it like that? will it be ok if it rains, water may touch it, but i could just wrap the hell ouy if it with tape.
This is the wire kit ill be geting.

you can run the wires how ever you want.... BUT ONLY IF PROPERLY FUSED!
and yes the amplifier kit does come with the blue wires to extend to the trunk/amplifier.
youll have to pull the radio back out anyways to hook up the RCA wires and the remote turn on wire so no big deal... just be sure you got the right blue wire off the radio... i know a few radios ive had in the past used 2 blue wires.... one solid blue and one blue with white strip... one was used for amplifier turn ON and the other was used for power antena. it has the power turned off to it when you have a cd.
but just as long as you have your amplifier wire fused right next to the battery then you shouldnt have any serious problems... but its still a posiblity of you closing the door and the wire geting caught between the hinges and shorting out... but as long as you have the wired fused it will only pop the fuse and give you time to find the problem.... if it wasnt fused next to the battery then you would have a fireball which would no doubt destroy your car!!!!!!! but IMO just do what i said and remote the battery and battery mount/tray and run the wire thru the factory gromet with the wires being used already... as long as you make a small razor blade cut about 1/2-1inch away from the wires youll be fine.... and clear the wires make the cut towards the middle of the car on the gromet because i believe the wires run towards the passenger kick panel under the dash.
it will look a hell of alot cleaner and be safer than thru the door jams!
i myself have my 1/0gauge wire ran under my car all the way back and up under the back seat cusion.... but thats just because... well hell 1/0gauge wire is fat as hell!!!!!! and i got 2 runs of it... one power one ground. no way to hide that stuff under the carpet.LOL

i dont have a fuse for the wire that goes to the batter. the amp has a fuse.
addiction2bass
05-14-2008, 01:16 PM
then go buy one! the amplifiers fuse is only good if the amplifier has a problem... if the wires rubber jacket gets cut on ANYTHING it will make a direct ground which will fry start fire and destroy your car!!!!! there is no saving your car if that happens! im shocked that the amplifier kit would not come with one!!!!!! since most do now adays..
pick the type you want...

so which one should i get?

Don't you have a best buy or circuit city around you or some type of store like that???
Just go there and get yourself a fuse holder and fuse
If it SAYS they come with a fuse, then yes then they come with a fuse
those two link that you posted do not come with one
be sure to read through item descriptions
if in doubt about something, just shoot an email to customer service, it's what they are there for.

it's use is in the title

so, earlyer today after work. i went to, two car audio shops, looking for a speaker harness. None sell them. So i went home and just cut the rear speaker plug off, and twist it with the wire that came with the aftermarket speaker. The end that went to the speaker had this clip, one small other big, it just slided on. This is just like crimping? But istead, i just used alot of electrical tape to cover the wires. The only thing im thinking about when doing this is, Willit affect the quality of the sound coming out of the speaker?(i hope it doesnt)If it doesnt, ill just do the same for the front speaker and save me money from ordering a speaker harness.
My front speakers came with them things that i was talking about, that slide onto the speaker. But they dont have wires already on them like the rear did. I have some speaker wire laying around, will it be ok to use it, will it not affect the sound quality of the speaker?

from the looks of the picture its 8gauge BUT you can still buy a 4gauge inline fuse. if it doesnt come with a adaptor then you can simply strip the wire back alittle more and just fold over the wire backwars like a V or Z and then tighten down the set screw on the fuse holder..... i always do that for my remote turn on wire anyways because sometimes its hard to get the wire to have a good pinch to hold it in the terminals.

I have evrything hook't up. But im not geting power to the amp!!! I have it wired To the battery and the head unit. It has this light on top of the amp to light up the V for visonik, that is lit up, but the green power button is not!!I disonect the power cable for the battery, and the V is still lit up, so that gets its power from the head unit turn on. So im gessing the problem is the cable to the battery, but i have it hooked up right.
The fuse holder wire is biger than the wire that i have on the other end, could that be the problem?

So, how does everything sound? I am starting off with replacing my door speakers first with some Alpine SPS-600, then my deck speakers (probably some Alpine Type R 6x9s), but I highly doubt I am going too big in the Civic since it is just my daily driver. I "may" add a 4 channel amp to the whole setup down the road then I am calling the sound system done!

MY amp says x-over, and under it has a switch that give's me 3 options lpf, full, and hpf . MY manual doesnt say what it does. I only have the 2 subs hookt to the amp. For best performance what should i haVE IT set at lpf, full,of hpf ?
Y sub was playing fine on the way to school, then it started to thump on its own, with or without music playing. Kind of like a hart beat.. What could it be? Could it be the ground? I just hand screwed it on the spare tire mount,it probly came loose..

ya the ground is probably the bad spot. make sure its clean and clean metal surface and tight!
also the Xcross over is the crossover on the amplifier. LP is for low pass, for subwoofer setup. HP is for HIGH pass which is for more for interior speakers. and FL or FULL is full signal you get high and low frequinces. best option is LP for the sub. and then play with the Hz crossover points to find the best sound to the sub with it pumping away!
also if you dont know what the Xover setting is then im sure your not to sure what the INPUT SENSITIVITY... its not a volume control! it should be matched with what your radios rca output is. if you crank it up it can easily fry your amplifier! if in doubt take it to a audio shop and ask them if they could tune the amplifier settings really quick.
