depends on how much you plan on boosting.

Your friends are smart.  If you turbo your motor with your current knowledge of supercharching, you will blow your motor, research.

i have been researching it but i was wondering with a small enough boost i can servive. lol

Do a compression check first. If everything checks out, and your motor runs well, it should be able to handle 6-8 lbs of boost.

Your pistons and connecting rods can most likely can handle 6-8lbs on a small turbo, but it is enough boost to lift your head and blow the headgasket even on the healthiest of engines.  If your engine is in good condition after compression/leakdown testing, order yourself arp headstuds and a headgasket from your nearest honda dealer before boosting.  Look into a t3, t25, or equivalent sized turbo, well suited for the size of your motor.  You'll also need a high performance clutch, because the stock clutch will wear down to nothing fast.  Good luck on your research.

t25 turbo is going to be a torquier turbo setup which will be harder on your rods. and it will have a lot less top end power, but it will be a pretty fun dd'er

t3/t4 turbo is more suitable imo, boosts around 3600rpm and will net you around 200+whp safely with 8lbs of boost and a good tune. headstuds arent a nescessity below 220whp, but always the safe bet, plus there easy to install.

hell, sov has his ek coupe boosted to 220whp on 8lbs for 6 months on a bone stock d16y8, and his head never lifted, you ""should"" be fine as long as your compression checks out, id say keep the numbers within 5-7% for 8 pounds

its a none v tech does this make a difference?

TheShimster91HB -> RE: d16 turbo (5/11/2008 2:39:07 PM)

Every honda motor is "none v tech" [:D]... Vtec, on the other hand, gives some people trouble in the tuning department.
