civic 97 turbo.
 

hi I got a 97 honda civic with stock 106hp. I have installed turbo and wonder how mutch hp the engine can handle? The engine is stock.
And if I installed pistons how mutch will it take then?

I can't tell you what your engine will be able to handle with a reinforced bottom end, but the stock d16y7 (your engine) bottom end can handle around 200whp.

a compression test will tell you what kind of shape your engine is in, it's a very good idea before turbocharging. What are the other specs on your turbo setup?

And reaper is right about 200 hp; just about double stock horsepower or close to 200 hp is safe usually, depending on your engine condition. And if you install some Vitara pistons, i think it lowers the comression to like 8.2:1 or something close to that, which loses some torque, but adds some reliability with the boost. Always a good idea, becuase not only do you lower the compression, btu you'll probably install brand new rings on your engine, which can be a big factor in how long your engine will last.

just a question, but i have a 97 civic, and i have a d16y8 in mine, is there something different between his and mine?

depending on his model, the engine might be a d16y7, d16y8 (in which case, no theres no difference at all in the motors), or maybe a d16y5 if he has an HX. Need more info on his model. Other than engine, if you're talking about accessorries, he might have power/manual windows, power/manual locks, sun roof, A/C, etc. Doesn't pertain to this thread much, try not to thread jack in the future.

since he's saying stock 106hp i'm guessing y7, the y8 has 127hp cause it has vtec baby:D. which is on EX models.

If you did internal work to a d engine you can go over 400hp without worrying along with a good tune. But the higher you go the more you have to upgrade other components, like fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, fuel rail, ignition, clutch, axel, motor mounts, brakes, blah blah.

ahh haha missed that one. Better intake manifold too btw ;)

but Live_4it is right. Not only do the internals matter, the clutch might start to slip, the injecotrs won't be able to supply enough fuel, no brakes to stop it, no traction without some sort of motor mounts/traction bars upgrade, etc. So if you're gonna start doing some major work, make sure you've got some funds to back it up.
