It's SRI time!
Ok. I've searched a bit and read the Intake FAQ, and while I hate to start a thread for this, I need some specific info.
I'm finally gonna buy a SRI, but I can't afford an AEM. So, looks like eBay is my choice. For those of you who have picked one up there, are there any that just don't fit right that I need to stay away from? I know I'm gonna end up putting a K&N filter on it regardless. |
RE: It's SRI time!
i got an eBay intake for my d16y7 just like yours and it worked just fine. The coupler that attaches to the throttle body is kind of a weird fit becaue it mounts on the top instead of the side like the y8, but other than that it's really straight forward and worked just fine.

RE: It's SRI time!
Also have an Ebay for my y7. I just left the stock air box on and the SRI goes out the side like a y8.

RE: It's SRI time!
^ you're gonna wanna remove the stock air box for sure. It's pretty restrictive from what i've heard. If the intake worked better off of the stock air box, it would have been designed for it.

Just check the sellers feedback. Anything below 98% stay away from.

RE: It's SRI time!
Well, I've been looking around ebay but I can't seem to find any specifically for a Y7/LX. They're all for the Y8/EX/Si. I don't want to have strange fitment issues from the top vs side mount pipe. The only one I found was a CAI, but I don't want to have to cut that circle out of the engine bay so it'll fit. Are there other cheap alternatives from other sites?
[edit] nevermind. I guess there IS a wrong way to search. After the redesign, I figured it would be easier to do a specific search, but nope. |
RE: It's SRI time!
look for a black 2 piece CAI with a red filter. it is perfect for both a CAI and if you only use the first piece it's a good SRI too. that's what i have in my car and it's worked fine. no mounting brackets on the intake though, they come in the bag so you have to weld them on. good luck

ORIGINAL: itinerant The only one I found was a CAI, but I don't want to have to cut that circle out of the engine bay so it'll fit. The CAI will work for an SRI... it's two pieces. Just only use the one piece that attaches to the the throttle body and it will be an SRI. Just buy a CAI and use half of it. Just search on ebay for "96 civic intake" and you will get tons of results. Just make sure it's for your model. If it says DX or LX it will work. |

My only comment is any intake you get SRI or CAI make sure it has a mounting bracket on the side for the intake tube and a rubber mount post, I've had an ebay tube that didn't have the bracket and it ment the tube was flopping around in the bay and hitting the strut brace as well as not fitting very well. Now the Simota intake I got off a vender on this board has the mounting bracket and cleared my ebay strut brace with Zero problems... |
RE: It's SRI time!
Well,I picked one up. It looked like an EX/Si intake with a separate section to make the bend onto the manifold. Doesn't look like it has the bracket, but I'll just weld one on and make it work. I don't care how it looks yet. This'll probably take a few weeks. What I plan to do is buy one something for the car with every paycheck (every 2 weeks) and then install it all at some point in the future.
