A couple fuse questions
Where would i be able to locate the specific fuse for the temperature gauge? also where can i find the wiring to check for the horn to work?

If only the temp gauge doesn't work, start by disconnecting the temperature sending unit (located below and slightly forward of the distributor) connector and then grounding the single wire to the engine with the key turned to ON. The temperature gauge reading should rise (disconnect before it reaches max temp). If the temp reading doesn't rise, the problem is the gauge itself. If the temp reading rises, then the sending unit is bad.
Here's the circuit diagram for the horn: Attachment 26483 |
RE: A couple fuse questions
So for the temp gauge, I disconnected it and stuck a wire inside the connector (so I didn't have to take it and re-strip it) and touched the wire to the top of the engine, turned the key to 'On' and the gauge did not move. Now, I'm assuming I must replace the gauge and hope they aren't too much.
As for the horn I have yet to do this. |
RE: A couple fuse questions
Yeah, if the wire was making good electrical contact with the terminal of the sending unit connector and a metallic engine part, then the gauge itself is most likely bad. Another possibility is a bad wire running between the sending unit and temperature gauge, though this seems less likely if the wire looks fine.

RE: A couple fuse questions
The gauge is powered from the same circuit that runs the gas gauge and the speedometer (if it is a 1992 or later model with electronic speedometer). So if those still work but the temperature doesn't go up to hot when you ground out the wire, it has to be the gauge itself or the wiring.
On the horn, start by testing the horn itself by jumping it to the battery. They get corroded and quit. If the fuse, button, and cable reel are good you should hear the relay clicking under the dash when you press the button. |

ORIGINAL: mk378 The gauge is powered from the same circuit that runs the gas gauge and the speedometer (if it is a 1992 or later model with electronic speedometer). If the fuse, button, and cable reel are good you should hear the relay clicking under the dash when you press the button. When I press the horn button on the steering wheel I do hear a clicking sound. I believe I hear it coming from right where I push it, meaning right behind the button or somewhere near there. |
I know this post is a little old, but I totally forgot about taking care of this. I figure since I'm under the hood now, I can add it to my list again.
Which one of these is the wire that runs to my temp gauge? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...h_DSCN2435.jpg The single wire correct? I've tried grounding it to the engine and turning the key on and it does not move. Do I ground this piece or the piece at the other end of the plug? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...h_DSCN2433.jpg Oh, forgot to mention the gauge don't work at all. It doesn't bounce, or go up, or go down. It does nothing and always has since I've had it. |

The diagram should help you locate the sending unit. Yes, it has one wire. Ground the unplugged connector.
